I much prefer having the Taskbar on the right side of the screen, Win 11 doesn't allow this. Having it on the bottom means I continually have it popping up when I try to hit various scroll bars. Really dumb move by MS to not allow flexible placement of the Taskbar. It also uses up valuable real estate at the bottom of the screen!

The Start screen is also a disaster in Win 11. I installed START11 to get the Win 10 Start screen back.

Turn off "Automatically hide the task bar"?
My task bar is always there and windows stop at it. No scrolling problems.
My task bar is not that large (1 icon tall) and takes up very little space.

I have laptop machines with both 10 and 11. Inevitably you will need to move to 11 though if you want MS support. The format on different brands, Dell and Lenovo in my case, varies. I have kept W10 on a machine as the Windows photo editing software on 10 is more user friendly than on 11. An example is when you save an edited jpeg file on 10 it automatically adds a suffix (1 , 2 , 3 etc ) which makes it easy track the changed files. On 11 you have to rename the edited file. I also find that working on document files involves more steps with 11. Not progress to my mind.

Hi
Well I work with computers on a day-to-day basis and if it were me I would not upgrade, I would do a full install and clean install. That's been my rule however doing upgrades works but keep in mind you may or may not have some issues. Number one "RULE" before doing any upgrades
always perform a backup of all your data first.

Make sure that your current hardware will support Windows 11, this is a must. Do those things you should be ok, but for me, I would always perform a clean install.

I think you can not do a clean install for free. You can upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11 for free. You could however upgrade to Windows 11 and then do a clean install because after you upgraded Microsoft remembers that it has activated your computer and so it will activate it when you clean install.

Regardless there was no reason to take features out of Win 11 that were very handy in Win 10!

I experienced 2 downsides. One was already mentioned, I have a printer that Canon no longer supports and Windows 11 wouldn't recognize. However when I installed drivers for my new Canon printer it worked for the older printer as well. So there might be similar workarounds for other older devices. The other is that in some applications like my raw developer / organizer app I can't send an image from inside the app to Affinity Photo and have it launch AP and load the image. Which is very convenient and time saver. I've read of similar problems with other raw developers, but the apps themselves work fine.

Progress shouldn't require a workaround.

But new OS/software often make your old hardware obsolete unless you find a workaround.
