I think one of the high points with this new forum is that it is serving to raise awareness about smartphone photography. It’s obvious that smartphone cameras can take images that go far beyond snaps of the kids’ birthday parties, family gatherings or, shudder, selfies. Each iteration brings more and more sophistication and technology to smartphone cameras and the aftermarket is building up a plethora of accessories and software and other devices for smartphone cameras and photography. This forum can help with education as well as information, and, as is the case with UHH in general, answers from members to questions posed by others. Thanks to this forum “they” can’t accuse smartphone cameras as inferior or those who use them as not being actual photographers. I encourage those who use this forum to inform others about it and encourage them to visit us here and see what it’s all about. It’s not about professional photography, it’s about fun photography.
I think one of the high points with this new forum... (show quote)

Perhaps this is the time for double posting. Camera phone users should also post in Photo Gallery and specialty Forums to show the disbelievers the quality you can achieve. Don't tell them you used a cell camera and I am willing to bet no one will see a difference

Who says that someone hasn't already done that on multiple occasions.

I agree...When you start to differentiate as to what you are using you open yourself to degradation... just do your post and " POST ".

We’re working along the same lines and train of thought, Mike107. I have, but seldom use, a Sony A6300 and an RX100M7 that I don’t use a lot. I had an iPhone 8, then an 11 and now I have an iPhone 13 Pro Max that I use mostly, and use my iPad Pro 3 for storing and editing. And iCloud enables all my Apple devices to sync, so all my photos are automatically stored on my MacBook Pro. The built-in editing software in Apple’s Photos and Snapseed are my main editing tools. I also have LR Mobile.

F Stop you do a great job moderating and growing the section. I like that it feels like you are with friends and family. We all have a common interest and feel very comfortable sharing on our site. I hope that we grow but keep the small unit feeling.

Wow it doesn't seem like it was that long ago that our group was started! I want to take time to thank all of you for contributing to it's growth. Going forward in 2024 I would like ask everyone's opinion on how we can improve and make it better. Again, thanks everyone for your image submissions and your support.

Thank you for starting this group. I only noticed it a couple of months ago. I appreciate seeing others' photos and what can be done with a smartphone. I'd also enjoy composition comments and learning about editing tools. I have been slow to use other than iPhone and Mac native editing tools, though have experimented a little with Snapseed.

It’s funny to me. I shoot fulltime for my job, and had started to lose the joy of photography and video until This latest version of the iPhone 15 pro max. It’s actually had me excited to just go out and experiment and see how far I can push what the tech can do. I’m a VFX Technical Director and 2D/3D Compositor by trade and the fun I’m having with green screens, Lidar, and just shooting has me feeling a bit like when I was handed my first Minolta film camera.

I also love how there seems to be a more positive and supportive vibe in this group! So thank you for setting it up! I’m excited to see it grow as well!

Thank you for your positive review of this site. I’ve spent a lot of time on it and it’s taken some time and a bit of cajoling to garner a more positive approach to smartphone photography. I think people are starting to understand that the cellphone camera serves a niche for those who are interested in photography but don’t have the financial resources to support a regular camera and lenses, and that the photos generated by, especially the newer phone cams, are excellent. And while they wouldn’t be the preferred camera for serious photography and commercial photography, they do very well for personal photography. My hope is that this site will slowly change the negative attitude many have toward smartphone cameras and those who use them. I’ve read, on UHH, where someone even said that cellphone cameras aren’t real cameras, those who use them aren’t real photographers, and the images aren’t real photographs, and that cellphones are only good for grabbing quick snaps of the kids’ birthday parties or making selfies, and are pretty much only good for sharing on social media. I don’t believe this is true and folks are starting to come around. We’re glad to have you here and participating on the Smartphone Camera Photography forum.

I agree with Greg's last message. Cudos to F Stop 12 for a fantastic job as moderator. This is the only site I go on UHH. I found where I belong. Announcement: Just sold my Sony A7 IV and all lenses and accessories will be gone this week. I am going to just use my Samsung 23S Ultra with a platypod stick, Cell clamp and platypod base. I am keeping my travel tripod to mount the phone on for night shots. Hope it works out. Hope everyone has a great weekend.
