Oh, I understand the reasons. I even agree with some of the propaganda they presented. But it was still propaganda.
According to wikipedia Shen Yun is headquartered in Deerpark, NY, affiliated with Falun Gong. I went once. I thought there was too much talking, too little dancing.
If you are expecting Cirque du Soleil, you will be disappointed. It was entertaining but more of an amateurish presentation.

Saw one a couple years ago. Nice show, ballet, gymnastics, a few special effects. Worth seeing once.
Good description. Saw them a few years ago. After the first 20 min, I was ready ready for a brief encore.

Has anyone attended one of Shen Yuns performances? If so, what is your opinion?
I went several years ago. I found the political overtones disturbing.

Interesting, police herding people.
That very thing happened to me and my wife at Disneyland many years ago when a bunch of hippies invaded and took control of Tom Sawyer's Island.

Looked up location of Shen Yun - a religious group
Shen Yun was founded in 2006 by Chinese expatriate adherents of Falun Gong, and is based at the Dragon Springs compound in Deerpark, New York, near where the group's leader Li Hongzhi and his followers reside.[8][9][10] Falun Gong adherents pay to rent the performance venue, promote the show, and sell tickets. After expenses are covered through ticket sales, proceeds go to Shen Yun.[1] The finances of Shen Yun and Falun Gong appear to be linked, with technically separate corporations sharing funds, executives and the same mission.[3] Li Hongzhi describes the Shen Yun performance as a means of "saving" audiences.[1]
I never see them but run into promoters for them often. They emphasize that Shen Yun is not from China.

No, but they are advertising the performances again heavily in California.

The dancing, tumbling, music, and choreography were beautiful. The politics presented rather spoiled the beauty.
A Chinese friend says it’s all propaganda. And she doesn’t support the Chinese government.

What or who is Shen Yun?
With 3, you get Egg Roll!!
My wife and a friend went in May 2023. I just asked her about her experience and she just spent several minutes raving about the show and the experience of seeing it. She would go again!
Thank You everyone for all the different replies.
I've now got tickets for my wife and I to attend one in Tucson. She used to teach English in Taiwan years ago and speaks enough Mandarin Chinese to get us thrown out of the concert hall. I'll just say don't know that crazy lady.
