Read the stats regarding speed at impact with a pedestrian. Small statured ones i.e. children fare even worse.
SLOW DOWN and let them live.
We have all the time speed reductions at playgrounds and schools to 30 kph and only the "main drags" are posted at 50 kph every other roadway is 40 kph.
Our neighbourhood is far more sane including vehicles stopping for pedestrians crossing streets at non light controlled intersections.

Our close-to-home 15 MPH flashing yellow light is on a timer. It works just before, during and somewhat after school hours, and is adjusted for non-operation on weekends and during summer recess.
Yup, we have ones just like that on busy or major streets.

And THAT, boys and girls, is why I don't live in new jork or kalifornia (new jerksey is totally off limits - I won't even drive through that state). Yes - I totally believe in school zone safety, and warning signs here are adjusted for applicable school hours, weekends, and holidays. Places that disrespect the public by NOT doing that are simply interested in fleecing their subjects.
