I absolutely want the subscription, you would be crazy not to. It costs less over time and is always up to date. The last time I purchased photoshop rather than pay for a subscription it was just over $700. It went up after that, I don't remember how much, but I couldn't afford to update it. By the time my copy was four years old it was totally obsolete. Prior to that copy I was updating once every three years. Three years of a subscription is $360 dollars. That's less than the purchase of a single copy of photoshop. So, not only does the subscription always keep my software up to date, it costs less than half what it would cost if I were to pay for the software the way people used to. On top of that, if you look at the fine print, you never did own the software. You owned a license for the software.

Semantics really, I can still use my old CS6 any time I wish and if I don't use it for 5 months, it has not cost me a penny. You on the other hand, if you stopped paying your rent a year or three ago, you would not have been able to use your Photoshop in all that time. I have always been able to use mine, any time I wish and not a further penny was paid. Plus it still does just about anything I need to do to a photo. You must differentiate between a pro user and a hobby user, which is probably what most of us are here.

Accepting of and wanting are two different meanings. I would suspect that the majority do NOT want it, but they are accepting of it. Not the same thing. Many probably feel they have no option, because they have not bothered to look around and see what has developed, in the last few years.

No I think the majority wanting it. I have seen some rants about this and everytime there were more post defending the subscription model. From making it affordable to the programmers have to eat argument.

Precisely, and if more people had decided to jump ship when Adobe went Ransom charges, they might have halted that effort. With that said, I knew some insiders at Adobe and the word was that less than 20% of their income came from 80% of their users, so people like you and I, and the rest of us here. It was the large corporate customers which was around 20% of their customer base, that earned Adobe 80% of their profit. They didn't really care about the general user; they knew those large corporate users were the ones they were going to be able to force to keep paying the ransom.

Years later they also tried to raise the monthly charge, and did some test groups in different countries to see what would happen when they began to raise their monthly ransom. They wanted to see what level of increase they could achieve, before the users started to jump ship. They soon saw that it was not going to work for them, so abandoned that idea, for the time being, at least.

For those that remember the start of it all, Adobe was wanting to charge $49.99 a month for their entire suite. However, most did not need the whole suite and were not signing up. They reduced it to $39.99 and still not to many takers, then they changed plans and offer the $10 just for Photoshop and that seemed to work. They were still selling LR outright. Then later, they included it as part of the Photography only package.

Corporations like the subscription model because it's easy on their accounting. They simply say they subscribe to how many Autocad or PS license for the year and that exactly how much they cost them. When they bought software they had to do the depreciation and the IRS sometimes doesn't like the way they do the depreciation. That's why many companies lease their PC's even though the cost is exactly same if they bought them outright and financed them for the same period. At the end of the lease term they also don't have to worry about disposal. But that's a good thing for me as computer companies basically get these 3 year old computers for free so they would sell them very cheap. And that what I buy. 3 year old off lease computer. I could get a new $10,000 workstation for like $1500 off lease.

CS6 won't even open my files as it does not support newer cameras. Yes there might be a difference in need between professionals and hobbyists but you have no idea how much photoshop has improved just in the last year let alone the five or six before that.

Anyone who ever wants to update their software would be crazy not to you a subscription model. But if you are happy with what you have great.

Like in the old days.

I agree. Instead of paying 60k for a new truck I bought a perfectly restored 69 Chevy 4wd with a/c for 28k. Is it a great truck. I only had to buy license plates once and my stated value insurance is less. As long as I don't destroy it it will be worth more than I paid for it when I'm ready to get a different vehicle. I have bought old for half my life. Also if it does need anything I can do it cheaply myself most of the time. Since it has a new updated motor with electronic ignition and a Holley sniper fuel injection set up I even installed remote start. Lol

Mercedes and Audi have dome that extra charge for metalic paints for decades.
So I buy "Certified Pre-owned" cars from the dealer. They come with sunroofs, metalic paint, leather seats...etc and a discount for its first 3000 miles by the sales staff....+ extra miles on the warranty.
Last time I bought a NEW car was a 1972 Volvo 142E.

You couldn't have told me that three months ago?! The washing and drying wasted a lot of time, so I switched to just drying. 🤣
