True…but I’ve never gotten a telemarketer/robocall from a number I recognized. So I don’t pick up.

Actually, I have moved to FL from WI and they try to get me to pick up with a WI area code. No one from WI is going to call me.

I found I have to add certain numbers to the white list (put them in my cell phone) that I may get calls from.
Hospitals, radiology groups (scheduling), medical offices, etc. Normally I would not have them in my cell phone.

One time I kept a telemarketer on the phone for about 45 minutes, they were selling home improvements in my old neighborhood in Los Angeles, (lol, I live in N.H. now.) When I finally told the person that I live in N.H. they said for me to go to hell and hung up on me. I loved it. Being retired, gives me the time to have fun on the phone. I try to keep them on the phone as long as possible so that they don't have time to harass anyone else.

We forward calls from our landline (which gets a 10-12 robo calls/week) to our cell phone (which gets one or two robocalls/week) while we're traveling.

Observation: The call forwarding procedure from our landline to my cellphone seems to "weed out" robo calls made to our landline.

There are a few good software solutions like RoboKiller that can go down to the phone number level. I have white listed several in my 561 area code where I no longer live. I have black listed the 561 area code and those are gone. Many spammers will use numbers with your area code to call.

Well, just don't get into an argument with yourself on the phone. That could be a signal for the guys in white outfits to come calling.

Even worse you might lose!

That does not work for. I find that I sometimes miss a call that I wanted.

I used to receive two or three telemarketer or scam calls a day on my AT&T landline. But that ended when I cancelled my landline service (including my formerly prestigious “212” area code) and now only use an iPhone 14 Pro. I still get occasional scam and telemarketer phone calls, but at least my iPhone warns me in advance and I don’t pick up.

I have had a robo call blocker for several years now and it is fantastic. Any call that comes in rings the phone 1 time and then breaks in and says this line has a robo call blocker on it if you are a real person push # on your call will ring thru, other wise it hangs up. We get about 20 robo calls a day but none go thru. The phone also has other features such as keeping a list of these calls but we do not use any of the extras. This is an AT&T landline phone. I posted the details on here a year or 2 ago if you want to get one.

I noticed a distinct change at the end of the year.
I remember this article. https://time.com/6513036/robocalls-government-action/

Most telemarketers I get drop off when someone physically is not answering. On my recording, I say that if it is important, please leave a message and I will get back to you. I get very few calls on my landline anymore, and even fewer I need to call back.

I have left a message on my phone. " I cannot answer this call at this time." "Please leave a message and i will return your call if it is important, necessary or social." They never leave a message and my life has become a lot more livable!

Caller ID is basically worthless as it can be easily spoofed, especial with VOIP calls.

Definitely not worthless. If I don't recognize the name and number, then I don't answer. They can spoof all they want.

[quote=KillroyII]While my calls, from people wanting to sign me up for a health insurance plan, had gone up to 6 or 8 a day… I just realized I have not received any of these in a couple of days… a relief.

That's because open enrollment period has ended.
