Sirius XM Being Sued

I have a kinda similar story but with a twist. I bought a Sirius SkyFi XM [2005] at a yard sale in remote Idaho. It had belonged to this widow, whose husband was a Trucker in AK... long story short, she said it had a LIFETIME sub as well. I purchased it very reasonably and contacted Sirius XM based on the ID of the radio and they confirmed it had a lifetime sub and that I could transfer to another SAT radio 3x for a fee of $75...

well over time the old SAT radio has begun to have difficulty turning ON, so I contacted Sirius XM and now they state THIS RADIO SUB does not exist and could not transfer service to any other device.

After researching further, discovered some years ago Serius FM ownership or something CHANGED the dates of recognizing existing LifeTime subs and hence, my radio was eliminated from further consideration.

THE REST OF THE STORY is:
it STILL works and I get ALL the stations not just some, I have been using it for the past 20 years! ... despite Serius XM stating IT doesn't exist... I LOVE the music but think they should offer some lifetime packages or more reasonable prices, given there are so many other options these days out there.

If one is interested in having Sirius XM, why not simply write a check for the subscription period, and not give them a credit/debit card number? That way, when renewal comes up, you have option of not writing another check.

I don't know if they take checks, but several of my credit cards provide virtual credit card numbers, so that you can cancel any of the virtual numbers without canceling your real CC number (or any of the other virtual numbers).

It's no too hard. Sirius gave me the run around on cancellation. I just notified my credit card company about the problem and they put a halt to the billing.

Sirus contacted me about two months later. I told them, I tried to cancel and got the run around. So I called my Credit Card company. I then told the Sirius caller that if they call about it again, I'll refer the matter with my attorney.

I've heard nothing more.

Pandora is my solution - $5.99/month for Pandora Plus with no ads.

Making Playlists is too labor intensive. I choose Pandora "stations" for artists that I like and hear those and similar music. It works great for me.

Also, Pandora has an offline mode that does not require internet access. I use this where I don't have WiFi, like in the car and while hiking.

By the way, Pandora has a 40's Music station. You can choose stations by style as well as by artist.

I do the same thing with Pandora, but I don't mind the ads. I like the playlists for different singers.

It used to be that if the radio was stolen, you could transfer it again, but I suspect they eliminated that provision.

There's the key to cancelling. Just replace the credit card on their file with a new one. You'll get endless "update your payment method" messages, but there's nothing they can do. You'll be home free.

There are just so many outstanding radio stations across the country and across the globe which can be streamed using TuneIn Radio. Having tried XM radio I just never saw the value.

Wouldn't they just charge the new card?

It's about time! Sirius XM is being sued because it's so difficult to cancel service. The difficulty of canceling is one reason why I would never sign up with them again. I have a Lifetime subscription, and until they cancel that, I'll stick with it.

I have had Sirius XM in several cars and have never had a problem canceling service which I have done several times as I take a car off the road during the winter months. Can't imagine why people have trouble. My subscriptions go back to 04.

They have trouble because "I want to cancel" is not enough for XM. They make "Special Offers" and transfer customers from one person to another, each one doing a lot of talking to wear the customer down. The fact that the company is being sued shows that this is their standard operating procedure. You were just lucky.

Maybe so but I can't remember being passed to another agent. Try flat out saying CANCEL!, you are on fixed income, laid off, will stop payment, taking vehicle off road, selling vehicle etc. They are pushy but be pushy right back.

I'll never subscribe again, so I'll never have to cancel. They're shooting themselves in the foot by making it so hard to cancel because I know of people, like myself, who will not subscribe just for that reason.

They should be sued for playing seriously crappy versions of great music. I'll never understand how they do it!

Not having to pay royalties? I'm just guessing.
