How long have you been here? You know this is how it works. I’ll agree that most of those are ridiculous suggestions, since he mentioned budget, but I don’t think suggesting a less expensive camera like the RP is bad. Maybe it’s something he already considered and decided against. Or maybe it just wasn’t on his radar and he’ll want to look into it.

As of this moment, I fear that his 'greeting' has run him off from the site. It has been a pretty embarrassing welcome display.

Everything was going great until the image litter started ....

Do you know how easy it is to get close to Sandhill Cranes? A lot of them aren’t afraid of people.

Superfly This was the same fellow who was commenting about godly directed duties of women to be sexually subservient to men. You inquired about what 17th Century rock he crawled out from under. My Dr Doolittle remark was to indicate that any remarks coming from him about animals was as looney tunes as the rest of his drivel. I know that in certain areas Sandhill Cranes are more acclimated to humans than in others. Here in northwest Missouri, they tend to be more cautious. Back to that fellow from the UK, there is something about him that makes me uneasy. I think he bears watching in whatever community he is in.

But what you are overlooking is that a LOT of folks have NO need for a lot of what you refer to as NEW generation features. Lock an inferior 6D down on a stable tripod, attach a top shelf L lens , and for all intent and purposes you don’t need a lot of fancy features… Even my lowly 60D with L lens has IQ as good as the Nikon Shot across the pond as posted…

Decide generally what sort of photography you are doing or want to do and then find a camera that will do that at a price you can live with. If you want to know if you made the right decision in your choice of equipmentl, look at the photographs you've made with that equipment. If you aren't happy there's a good chance that the problem is not in the equipment but ourselves.

I’m guessing the reality is that his wife keeps his testicles in a red velvet lined, sterling silver jewelry box in her nightstand.

That very well could be. Except I have trouble imagining how this fellow could have a wife. I feel sorry for his mother. Even if she is responsible in part in contributing to his warped views, she must have been damaged herself to rear such a creature. I can't think of any other post on UHH where I could imagine the submitter becoming aroused as he typed it out. He possibly could have something worthwhile to say about photography but I no longer have any interest in what he has to say about any subject.

Looks like the OP learned pretty quickly what UHH is all about. After one post, and after 6 pages of typical UHH, he never came back.

He might just be spending his time deciding which brand is best, and whether his lenses need a filter.

Actually the OP knew exactly what he wants.

Having a similar pair on hand, the 6D and the R, Ill just mention that the 6D sits idle while the R gets all the jobs. But !!! an SLR will be much cheaper right now and you can always replace it later, come "someday".

The R is using the EF lenses from the 6D, so the difference is just the bodies, having no difference in the selection of lenses to set the cameras apart.

---------------------------------------------

Theres really just one big reason that the R has put the 6D on the shelf, which is the vastly greater utility of an EVF over an SLR.

In ideal conditions there is deficiency to the 6D relative to the R. But I find that the most interesting opporunities are almost never associated with ideal conditions.

This would not especially favor either camera.

The OP said the R5 is not in their budget, and asked for a comparison between the EOS 6D Mark II and the EOS R8. Why are people talking about the R5, R6, RP, 5D IV, OM-1, Nikon Z9, and Sony A1? Why are people posting photos of birds?

OP asked about two models because he could not afford the one he really wants. People are offering info on models that might also work for OP and sometimes at even lower prices.

As to the birds etc. Just to show what can be done with the camera they suggest.

You're being generous toward people adding image litter to the thread. The OP said nothing about the intended use, nor anything about a $6,500 Sony camera, before any lens is purchased.

Well a fairly big % of Hoggers are like me, retired and lots of time to be here, playing with cameras and other toys or just researching and learning about different things. As to adding the "image litter", just wanting to show off may be the reason, or it could be actually wanting to show what the particular camera/lens combo can do.

In my case, between my wife and I we have a good retirement income from pensions, SS and 401k or similar. So I can afford pretty good gear, which I hang onto = I have a lot. Though some things (that Sony or R3 etc.) do make my wallet and debit card hide under the desk and whimper a bit.

As to being generous towards people. It keeps the peace, and you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.
