The OP asked about two specific Canon cameras, a DSLR and MILC, in the lower price-range for FF digital, and both in the 24MP resolution range, with reference to a budget limitation. But, one member proposes a different brand, at 3x the cost, and litters the post with multiple junk images. We're off to a running start this 2024 at UHH ....

I forgot, what do you have now?

If you really need a full frame and don't have much money, I would suggest that until you save the money for the R5 you want, you might go with an older EF body.
My first DSLR was a 6D, and I did things with it others said it didn't do. The colors are good and the low light performance is outstanding. The first time I tried for tree silhouettes by moonlight, it actually tried to render the scene in full colors. Muddy and grainy but full color. I still have a 6D for just in case. My second DSLR was the 7DII so I had FF and APS-C, both with a 20MP sensor. For several years those were my cameras. I still have a 7DII also as backup to my R7.
Here are some shots done with my 6D to show you how well it performs. These were all taken on the same day in the same place back in 2015.

In my opinion, it would be an excellent stopgap until you can afford the R5. They can be had in excellent condition for about $500.

BIF -Angel Touching Down- I knew some people who said the 6D couldn't do these. Processed to look like the old magazine illustrators like Norman Rockwell

R8 for sure...but with out good glass you may be kissing your cousin. Glass is where its at. As noted, you asked a very specific question about Canon FF...so that would be my answer. Canon is great gear and may well be my go to when and if I change from my travel-centric micro 43 gear.

While not exactly what you ask, I have a 6D first iteration and an R5. The R5 is hands down the best camera I have ever owned. As a canon guy I’ve had Ftb, F1, Eos A2, 5D as well as Maymia and Hasselblad and 4x5’s and even an 8x10. Probably 20-30 cameras over 50+ years. The R5 beats them all.

Fortunately both the R8 and the 6D MII are capable of amazing photos of unlimited types of subjects and not limited to just birds like the a1 seems to be.

Agreeing with all those who recommend reading online reviews and to distrust the fanbois that pervade UHH. Altho far from perfect, reviews are definitely preferable.

A large problem on UHH is that supposed "advice" on choosing a camera is hugely polluted by narrow visioned birders who recommend purchases that do not make common sense for greater photography.

I love humor. Posting tons almost every day. Maybe, work on your delivery to generate more guffaws from the off-topic replies? I didn't sense much of a winky face in the wording of your image throw down challenge reply.

Are you still under the influence of excessive NYE celebrations? You replied to me, just in case your eyes can't focus clearly enough for your seemingly vague memory of today's order of events.... While thinking about your 2024 actions, ask yourself again why you're suggesting 3x cost Sony cameras to our Canon OP? And then posting image litter too to the thread?

Exactly. Now I do shoot a lot of wildlife and for me my OM-1 and Z9 fit the bill. I’m not a Canon shooter, but that R5 is a nice camera and the R6 isn’t far behind and great if you really don’t need all those megapixels. But really, if you don’t shoot wildlife or sports do you really need that kind of performance? The RP looks like a nice option. (I definitely wouldn’t suggest buying a DSLR new in 2024)

You Canon Fan boys are all alike. You guys are so uptight trying to prove your equipment is the best when it's really not.
I feel sorry for you.
You keep trying, but you just can't quite get there.
Oh well, I will continue to use my superior Sony A1 which everyone agrees is the best mirrorless camera on the market. Especially on birds in flight when they are 400+ yards away and you want them to look like they are right on top of you.
Oh well, keep on trying Canon fan boys, when you grow up you can buy a Sony.
