I’ll bet you also learned to not stick your tongue on a 9 volt battery or lick a metal pole in zero weather!

One from my high school geometry teacher: It’s not the fall that hurts you; it’s the sudden stop at the bottom”.

You don’t need a parachute to jump from a plane, you only need one if you plan to jump twice.

We had some good Movie Quotes but some people wanted to interject quotes not in Movies. Those can be interesting as well. Also, some of you may have come up with a quote you feel would be relevant for now and the future -- something you or your mother or father said that made an impression on you.

When I was in high school playing in the band, we had an older but very wise band conductor. His name was R. Roy Coats and taught at Humes High for 25 years. He was there when Elvis attended the school as well as when I did in the mid-60s. Two of his quotes I remember to this day: "A man's true worth is what he does when his boss's back is turned" and "The proof of the pudding is the eating thereof."

I have one quote that I coined and hope it could live on beyond my short stay on this blue/green marble, and maybe prompt some person along the way to reassess a position.

"Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem"

So, if you have a quote you have coined or one that has inspired you, let us hear it.

Paraphrasing President Eisenhower:

"Things are more like they are now than ever before."

If you are looking for credible, meaningful statements regarding life and human behavior you might consider getting a book of Will Rogers or Mark Twain sayings. Very little else comes close.

I'm not a big fellow for quoting others... I prefer my own statements rather than relying on others. It was unusual for me to use a tagline written by my son, "So strange to see the singularity approaching while the entire planet is rapidly turning into a hellscape. -John Coates", but it was so insightful that I felt compelled to use it. My previous tagline was, "Rather than think climate change and the corona virus as science, think of it as the wrath of God. Feel any better?" Same sense of foreboding.

Here is another couple of lines to live by -- from The Gambler -- "You've got to know when to hold them, know when to fold them, know when to walk away, and know when to run. You never count your money when you're sitting at the table, there'll be time enough to count when the dealings done".

They were good all right, probably the best but I would put John Wayne up there also. He was someone to be admired and that is saying a lot when you talk about the "Hollywood Crowd".
