To me a simple camera is a Fujifilm Finepix S. I use it all the time with no problems. Cost would be about $75.00 for one on E-Bay. Some one wrote that $600.00 for a simple camera. He must have more money than brains. If you want to use a film camera I may be able to help you out.

Hello everyone,
I've got a Canon Power Shot sx40hs and it's a bit too complex for me. I'm a senior who has had an extremely stressful Fall because my wife is dying with cancer and chose to relocate 550 miles away at her daughters house. This is after 37 years of marriage. So without resorting to kids toys what camera would you like to suggest ?

I just realized you have a great camera. Don't buy another one. Put your camera on a (auto) and shoot away.

Oh I'm not going to get rid of it. It has an incredible zoom. I'll have time to learn it, but I might buy one of those Fujis which was previously recommended. Thanks for sharing your thoughts Frank. Best wishes for a happy new year.

This is a great little camera for $600. Sony just sent me a loaner with the adapter for people with vision problems......

The OP indicated his monthly income is only $980. He also indicated he can't go out to Photograph anything because of his feet. He also already has a PowerShot XS40, a relatively easy to use camera, which he says it too complex. Probably purchasing a $600 camera is the last thing he should be doing. Assuming his current camera is working correctly, he needs to figure out how to use it. I believe spending any money on a new camera in his situation would be a poor decision.

putting his current camera (which is a great one) on A, makes it a point and shoot. Easy peasy.

My other post corrected to that. I don't know how anyone can survive on that income. That's below poverty level....I feel for him.

To bad some one close to him can't go show him how to use the one he has. I think he's just nervous and afraid.....

You can always purchase a bridge camera that has a built in lens from a good camera store or from a large camera store on the internet.

I think an slr that takes AA batteries is truly a bridge camera. I might buy the Fujifilm FinePix S after the 1st of next month. Then I can throw these older Olympus pocket cameras in the trash. I've got two FE-210s and each one makes soft photos. I could get an unpleasant surprise but I'll have to look at the sellers ratings and ask questions. This is just a temporary thing

Sorry to hear about your wife. But if I might suggest, do you have a smart phone? If so, just use the phone. Newer phones take great photos.

Set the Powershot on automatic. It will do fine for everyday shooting.
