- and me ! It is my lighter duty tripod of 3 that I own - paid $10 for it - Like new- at a flea market. I have bigger tripods, but the 3021 works very well for me - even with big lenses ! I did not think I would like it for bigger stuff - but I DO.

Interesting point Bspraue. I tend to only carry a full size tripod when I have a specific purpose in mind, but the mini/travel tripods are what you'll find in my bag all the time. My personal favorite is Aoka CMP163CL (the version that includes a center column). Yes the legs are super small and no it won't accommodate a long lens, but at just over 1 pound with a closed length of 14", and an extended height of maybe 56", it bridges that gap between hand held and rock solid. While I've used it with my dslr in a pinch, I find it more useful for strobes, my bridge camera, or action cams like a GoPro or Insta360. I think it's a matter of using the right tool for the right job... and in many situations, these little guys have significant value. Thanks for opening the conversation!

Tripod discussions are frequent here on UHH. There is no doubt that a heavy, rock steady, full size tripod is frequently useful. I have one.

Based on frequency of use, I have one that is a bit different. B&H says I bought it in 2017 and paid $44! It still looks and feels brand new. I've used it as a "chest stabilizer", slide copy stand and simple handle. It works to hold an LED light. I've used it on a selfie stick to make it stand up. Used conventionally it makes any chair, stool, table or stump into a replacement for the big one.

The price is a little higher now but, for what it does, it is still a good value.

I have a Benro Bat zero (16.4" max, 11.81" folded length) tripod, and I really like it.
It also works well as a chest pod.

I looked it up. At 11.81 folded, it would easily fit in any bag.

Yes!! I bought a Manfrotto Bogen 3221W and 3030 pan head more than 25 years ago. The pan head is gone but I still use the tripod occasionally, when I need a beast rock solid and my travel Sirui won’t do. And not expensive, I’ve noticed it’s still available used for what I paid for it new.

As a person who purchased too many tripods, I can tell you how I solved my problem. I took my equipment to a store and put my stuff on each tripod till found one the fit me. It was the correct height (not having to extended it) with the camera on it, sturdy and was comfortable to handle (setting up and moving around). Can't do that on line.

My favorite tripod is a Ries Model C. It was made about 1930 and is also wooden. All controls are operable without bending over to lock legs. It was my father's tripod but that isn't why I like it. I like it because of the ease of operation, the leg extension and the lock for leg spread. It will handle a 70 to 200mm lens without issue.

Here is my Bogen tabletop. It's much older than yours, however it was made in Italy by Manfrotto.

If you were talking to me with this comment its a good lens but it wont work for sports photography.

You need f2.8 on a lot of facilities for night games. The only reason I have a 150-600 is it lets me have two big lenses when there is enough ligjt and its more flexible than a prime. For example I use it at baseball games set focused on home plate but with it also prefocused at short. That way as I turn towards short after a hot I can zoom in for the play at second. If I just had a 500 I couldnt cover both posistions.

Looks like it works well. One of the reasons I like mine so much is that, with the legs collapsed, it forms into a rounded hand grip that is comfortable in my larger hands. Your Bogen looks straight legged.

Based on how I use a tripod, I need it to be compact and lightweight, so that I can carry it around on my camera bag. So, a couple of years ago I bought a K&F Concept 61" Carbon Fiber Camera Tripod and I like it.

Even though I have an excellent Vanguard carbon fiber tripod and Vanguard head, it is too big, bulky, and heavy for me to travel with. I only use it very rarely these days. My tripod of choice is the very compact and light weight Peak Design carbon fiber travel tripod. Unfortunately it's also quite expensive

Over time my gear requirements have changed significantly and I've selected gear that specifically meets my photographic interests. My current camera is the small and light weight Nikon Z fc. I use prime lenses with it almost exclusively and the majority of them are very small manual focus lenses. I realized some time ago that the focal length of the overwhelming majority of the images I've captured were wider than longer and that fast wider angle prime lenses suited my photography goals.

This combination of a compact and lightweight camera, with compact and lightweight lenses, mounted on a compact and lightweight tripod is perfect for me and I am enjoying my photography much more than I have in the many years of lugging around large and heavy gear.

Amen to all that.

I have noticed that creative images are most often produced by users of lightweight gear. I have also noticed that many users of heavy outfits wear an "aura" of heroism about their massive gear, but their technically high grade results exhibit little to no creativity. Theres something like an inverse square relationship between creativity and that sort of "heroism".
