I can't just go out and take pictures because I have these huge growths on the soles of my feet (palmoplantar kerotosis) which are very painful. I guess I could eventually figure out the self timer because I want to take photos of the bottoms of my feet for medical people. Besides, there's nothing to take pictures of on this prairie except ugly wind turbines. The county ruined my property. I say that because I was going to build a small observatory when I first got here in 2000. The thermal turbulence from the turbines totally wipes out the clarity of telescopic images.

So you said there isn't much that you would want to photograph where you are and you can't move around a lot. So the camera is only to take picture of the bottom of your feet? That task would be best done with a smartphone.

Hello everyone,
I've got a Canon Power Shot sx40hs and it's a bit too complex for me. I'm a senior who has had an extremely stressful Fall because my wife is dying with cancer and chose to relocate 550 miles away at her daughters house. This is after 37 years of marriage. So without resorting to kids toys what camera would you like to suggest ?
An inexpensive smart phone.
There are many superior brands equal to or better than the iPhone..
Simple to use and are very cheap compared to paying the name premium for the iPhone.
Jitterbug at best buy is $150 and is designed specifically for those who find cameras too complex.
Best Buy and others have them.
Without intentionally trying to sound snarky, I offer my sympathies to you and your wife for the issues you face. It sounds like a camera is the least of your challenges. If you are seeing a good, qualified doctor for your foot problem, especially the condition you mention, they generally have a camera or good phone photo capability and may take the photos for you and share with you. Sounds like you and your wife need each other. BTW... I have been married 37 years and I would be lost without my sidekick. Best to you for a better year.

I have a RICOH GR iii and it is a great camera and not at all a toy. I also like a Sony RX100 vii and a Nikon Z50 with kit lenses.

I too am a 'senior' and am sorry for your troubles.
My suggestion for a simple camera is the Sony DSC-HX99. Sony puts an "Auto" setting on their dials. Leave it there and your camera will remain simple and your pictures will be good.
This is a great little camera for $600. Sony just sent me a loaner with the adapter for people with vision problems......

My doctors etc. at Kaiser all just use a smartphone. I seem to remember one of them saying that the medical center got them a bargain on a model with a great camera when they order through their medical supply department.
Nikon S01. Great camera for stills and video. I took this with me to Australia on a 3 month work visa. Fits into your shirt pocket and simple to use.

You have an accumulation of serious issues that make your concern regarding a camera shrink. I hope you are getting the help you need.

Exactly my concern and expressed better than I did.
Thank you revhen, but I don't think she's coming back
My sympathy for your medical issues.
Why spend money to buy another camera? As others have said, your camera already has an auto mode, which is about as simple as a camera can get. My doctor uses an ipad with a lens attachment to take photos of my various ailments. When I tried to take a photo on my own, the quality was usually not good enough for him.
