Nope.
I was referring to the people who complain (worry) about things that are not earthshaking problems.

I just happened to notice that there are six more subscribers to the main section than there were before the weekend. (None new since Sunday, though.) So there is a trickle of new folks here. My guess is that maybe one of those six may make a post some day. Its also possible that none of them will ever come back. I joined one other forum and only returned three times before giving up and abandoning it...there was nothing new or of any interest there, and the arrogance was stifling.

Forums are like retail outlets...products need to be good, and service and atmosphere need to be inviting to potential good customers. There was also a preponderance of reasoning in my professional days that it is 20 times as expensive to attract and 'sign up' a new customer than it is to retain an existing one.

What's the issue here? The forum sections all have posted descriptions and rules. Yeah, some of the Admin actions are head scratchers but so what?

The bigger problem is that some UHH members don't follow the rules because of ignorance or willful disregard.

I will say though, that there are way to many sections. I think separating out Birds was a good idea because of the sheer volume of postings. But other sections are started with someone saying "Wouldn't it be nice if we had a separate section to discuss XYZ...". Enough people agree and Admin approves. And then nobody goes to those sections.

...

Many don't realize that the category has a default (to the last one viewed) when posting, and is changeable.

Sometimes, there is good information in some of the lesser visited sections, in threads that are from eight, nine, ten years ago. At least, I've found that to be true, but maybe it's only because I haven't been doing this photography hobby since I was eight, ten, eleven, whatever, somewhere back in time.

Some of those who were contributing members in the past, who shared good information, who had been brought up from their youth with someone to mentor and instruct and support them, had probably already forgotten more than I may ever learn.....so maybe none of the look back into older threads is useful to many others.

Everybody likes to have their say, some over and over again.

If anybody really cared they would have requested, way back, that this thread be moved to chit chat.
It has left photography behind a long time ago!

Just saying'

I think that there really is an issue and that it is perhaps related to the topic that this discussion intended to address.

Yes, there is a lot of quite loudly voiced insistence around posting pictures here, not there, or not bringing up a question one more time, because it has been discussed before. One truth is that sometimes folks make mistakes. Sometimes they are careless. Neither is likely to end the world when it happens in an online forum. The fact that a familiar topic has been discussed previously here is of absolutely no significance. The reality that posters prefer cute topic headings over useful ones, combined with an ancient crippled search function, means that past historical posts here might just as well be deleted in many cases.

Anyway...these are minor rules. Nobody dies if there is occasional deviation. Bad behavior is quite different and has been shown to sometimes lead to serious consequences.

This is UHH. Posts normally drift far afield from the original thread. Just the nature of the beast I think.

So then what photographic subjects should you allow in your ideal list of topics allowed? You don't like birds and now don't like flowers, plants or horticulture. Should we all be able to choose our ideal subject topics and of course Admin would be required to satisfy our needs in that regard. I don't like sunsets or sunrises so should Admin come up with a way to not allow any of those in my computer feed for UHH?

Can't you simply click on the next topic from whoever and if it is a bird or plant, simply click out and move on to the next topic that you do like? I honestly don't mean to be boorish or rude but should each of us have a separate group of topics engineered to our specific tastes in photography? That isn't necessary for me. I just see something I may not like and then move on.

Forgive me IF I am completely missing what you are talking about.

I dunno why he cares. He doesn’t post photos and seems to spend most of his time in the attic

I really do care, and I’m glad this thread stays here. Before my ‘vacation’ I was banned from the “ChitChat” Section, and removing that ban doesn’t seem to be important to the Admin - and I’ve chosen to not push the issue.
