The so-called 1" sensor is much smaller than Micro 4/3 sensors. So the actual focal length required for an equivalent field of view on m43 would be much longer. That means more glass, more weight, tighter tolerances, and more issues with chromatic aberrations, coma, astigmatism, etc. Long ratio zooms are not known for their great performance. That's why pros limit their zooms to 4:1 or 3:1 ratios. We want great performance across the range, preferably at wide apertures (wide open to two stops down).

I'd rather carry two or three zooms with great performance than one mediocre one that costs the same as the three good ones.

You have obviously never used the RX10M4 - the zoom lens performance is NOT mediocre .... why not carry ONE zoom with GREAT performance ?? Having used Canon L primes, I can assure you I know GREAT performance when I see it....and the RX10 zoom has it ! - wide open - no stopping down....

M4/3 needs a W-I-D-E zoom that goes to 300mm with an f-stop in the 4's - that would make me a customer. It would not be horrifically large ! 77mm filters. I need 600mm equiv - like the RX 10 - without extenders - Zeiss has done it ! And yes, I know it defies all conventional logic regarding zooms.

OTOH Pentax avoided offering a converter by simply keeping the legacy SLR K-mount and flange depth when they introduced their EVF ... and that only showed that the converter approach is always a success while retaining the legacy mount is a lead balloon.

It’s not a matter of good or bad enginneering. It’s a matter of reading the tea leaves. (And now Pentax sees a new film camera in their tea leaves ?!?) A K-mount EVF seems like a great idea but the arc of the universe favors new mounts plus converters. Que sera sera

Ricoh refuses to devote the resources needed to develop a new series of lenses - certainly not with a goldmine of older lenses.

Their strength remains DSLR, so a return to film is natural - a place where MILC would {at best} be at a disadvantage. They have had a series of talks where artists talk about their continued use of film. The fact that these other companies have left film behind is a problem for these other companies - in this case a majority does not mean correct.

Like a Panasonic Lumix 14-140 and a 100-400 for your GH5?

More like the 10-25, 25-50, 50-200, and 100-400. That would be my dream kit. I don't have any of them. I currently use the 12-35 f/2.8, 35-100 f/2.8, 30mm f/2.8 macro, and 42.5mm f/1.7. This year, I'll replace the GH4 with a G9 II or a GH7, if Lumix releases one.
