Don't know if anyone can help, but suddenly and for no apparent reason, none of my Topaz plug-in programs will load, either in Photoshop CS6, Elements 10, or in Topaz's own PhotoFX Lab. Using Windows 7, 64-bit, plenty of free memory, and up until the recent issue, all have been working and used for many months without a problem.

Been through three techs at Topaz so far, no luck resolving the issue. No other programs affected, nothing added or deleted from computer recently, same anti-virus software. All Topaz plug-ins simply fail to load, and yet all show up in my CS6 history panel after attempting to load them, and otherwise CS6 works normally.

All programs have been uninstalled, re-downloaded and reinstalled (three times!), same issue. Pathways checked, registry checked, and nothing out of whack.

The Topaz banner appears when program is clicked in Filters, but then disappears with no further activity, other than appearing in the history panel (or in Topaz PhotoFX Lab, the error message 'plug-in crashed, Windows is searching for a solution'). Windows is regularly updated, and all Topaz programs are latest releases.

Any ideas? Appreciate any help you can offer.

I had a similar problem when Microsoft sent out their most recent update for WINDOWs 7 about a week ago. It came automatically and something changed in my system too. My solution so far has been to reinstall the backup version before the most recent MS update and everything worked again. I then just installed the MS security updates one at a time till my machine again failed.I then made sure not to have that particular update downloaded and installed. I called Microsoft and someone is supposed to get back to me when they figure out what the problem is. I suspect it has to do with delimiters and the program thinks it's a virus or junk popup. Have you reported this problem to MICROSOFT yet? I'm sure if enough people call them with problems, they'll get hot on the solution and reissue the defective update. Good luck and MERRY Christmas.

To check against software clashes, try loading Topaz FIRST and run it, then each subsequent program in order of importance to you.

Could be a hard drive sector corruption, un which case other programs will eventually fail.

Could be a virus.

Those are my suggestions. Good luck.

my computer wouldn't load updates. I had office depot check it. I had malware on it. they used malware bytes software and it removed what was making my computer not work. now it works perfect. Its worth a try. Ray White

So now you've learned that all those free downloads really aren't free. Malware can also be placed into your machine when you open emails from unknown sources and those free porn sites. Good anti-virus and firewall programs will scan emails for viruses and malware and cookies before it actually opens the file and warn you of the threat.

I had an issue with Topaz a while ago, when using CS6. I ended up removing every trace of Topaz from the program folder and also from the program data folder. I then re-installed it and it works fine with no other issues. Hope this helps.

I've had some luck solving "mysterious" software problems by cleaning the registry. I use Reg Organizer but there are many others.

I have CS6 and Topaz I have all the latest updates from MS as well on my machine. I just checked their operation before writing this note and both are running fine.
Sorry I know this does not fix your problem, but it may be isolated to your machine.
Good luck in resolving the problem I see some good ideas from others on how fix it.

At times viruses are evasive. I now use AVAST free because it will do a long long scan on reboot. This scans before your computer installs things, in this way malware can not rename itself or hide. (tell AVAST what to do when it finds a virus, when setting up the reboot scan... otherwise, it will stop at 2AM and ask what to do. Once set up it will be done by the time you get up and have that first cup of coffee )

I had a similar problem a year + ago and uninstalled Topaz using "Your Uninstall" and then reinstalled. Of course you do lots of standard maintenance like malware and defrag after uninstalling. Also take that time as a time to zapp any junk programs you have (humph I should take that advice). Then reinstall.

The go back to a previous snapshot of the computer as suggested in this post, is often effective... I have done it twice.

And of course we, all UHH people, keep our back up disk up to date, remove it** and store in a sock drawer,, just in case the Mayan prediction of Computer doom comes true!!

** open the side of your computer, put power and SATA cable on the hard drive, Clone you main drive, then turn off machine and put the HD back in a static bag and keep warm and dry to be awakened if needed. Keep a back up of photos on one of the low cost Stick Drives... they are huge now and cost is low.... Disaster can strike at any time!! What if your computer room caught fire? Humm the Backup HD is at work in a locked drawer,,, oh good,,,

Sounds right to me, especially since SingleViking has been able to duplicate the problem. Topaz has been terrific in the past about solving problems and I suspect if you contact them with the information about the Microsoft update they will intervene on your behalf or provide some sort of fix. In the meanwhile, setting the machine back to a previous point when things worked, before the update, will alleviate your problem. . . or you could buy a Mac ;-)

Don,
If you only use the free version of AVAST, you miss out on all the most recent virus update notifications and program updates. AVAST is cheap compared to other antivirus programs since their subscription is for 3 years and not just 1. I have the subscription version on all the machines here and got a multiuser discount to boot. I also discovered that their customer service is close to me here. It's in Davou, Mindenou, Philippines. Hey, that's better than India anyway. Here we put the emphasis on the right syllable anyway and don't end our sentences like they were all punctuated with a question mark. LOL.

Hi, have you tried restore? I have 64 bit Windows 7 and so far Topaz is working in both Lightroom and Topaz program. Good luck Bee

If you have not done so yet, now would be the time to try a system restore (although as many times as you have uninstalled and reistalled it might be iffy).

And/or - Try one more uninstall. This time go through your explorer tree and make sure every..single..folder and file relating to Topaz or any of it's components is removed before you reinstall (make sure you go throught all subfolders like Program Files, My documents, etc.). If you have not done so, I would also go into the Tools pull-down menu while in the explorer tree and enable viewing hidden files and folders to make sure you get all Topaz components removed before reinstall. Sometimes I have even checked the regisry. I have had issues in the past where "Uninstall" did not really uninstall all of components of the software - just the ones absolutely necessary to run.

I truely wish you good luck - These problems are extremely nerve-wracking.
