You nailed it..WE are this group. The quality of the site depends on the posters here. I will not be liked by many due to my harsh critiques, but hope to add flavor and insight to those with the stomach to pit up with my arrogance.
Rhino, almost everything has flavor. But, there some things I would not put in my soup.

I am willing to admit, that I shoot in JPEG. I do so with the excuse of being color blind to pastel shades and RAW fans advise that it is valuable because it allows bringing out all the better color qualities of a photo without injuring the original. So I have pretty much resigned myself to JPEG and Photoshop to clean up as best I can. I also do not delude myself by thinking I could sell my photo efforts, given the fact that probably, about half the worlds population are taking photos as I write. At 78 young years and having experienced many slings and arrows about just about everything, I continue to value comments from other photo enthusiasts in an attempt to do better. This is a recent shot taken on the road between Banff and Jasper Canyon, Canada.

Very nice. I wish I was there!
I certainly agree. I found this site a couple of months ago it is extremely informative. I have submitted several photos for critique and found all the folks responding to be very helpful with a sincere desire to suggest improvements without any condemning criticism. I've learned a great deal from you folks and really appreciate your help
I can take criticism as probably most of the people here do....
I think it comes down to delivery.
if anyone has to put someone down to make their point how can they be a good teacher or someone to be respected for their opinion?
It's good that this is being addressed, it has been something I noticed as a newbie on this site and is certainly something I have concern for by the manor some have been able to bully others....
that kind of criticism might be best kept to yourself...
or at least...if you must say something....take the time to word what you have to say in a way that is beneficial to the group....
As much as we invest in our images, perhaps we need to take that effort into effective communication.
My observation......as a newbie.....

This is a stunningly beautiful photo, and I can't think of a single thing to say in the way of critique. I need not make any comments regarding the central theme of this post, as my sentiments have been more than adequately expressed by many others.
Hi jokescache1. Just a friendly reminder about hijacking. It is considered somewhat rude to post your own pictures on someone else's thread without permission. It breaks the thought pattern and takes away from the intent of the original post. I'm sure if you had known that you wouldn't have done it. No offense intended. bigcoz
i think im going to cry,, haha,, just joking,, you are right,, a bunch of great people here,, im new to all this and have been helped so much.. from my questions being answered to reading others.. im noticing, everytime i have a free moment, im checking UHH

hey all,,hamtrack posted so I will try a couple..
first one,don't need critique,just something put up[hopefully]
for all you different "program" masters to down load and play with.since I shot it I probably see more wrong than you do.
I really hated to loose this shot-a good one would have been
wonderful[to me]..
the second one-rip me a good one--I've already done it to myself,so look for others ideas...---joe
I very much like it....whats to improve?....I would have had to be there....nothing to rip up...great shot....what time of day?

BTW I like the first one best....for the rock face foreground and sky color....david
Hamtrack, I like that photo. It is such FUN to see a scene such as that and be able to capture it and share it with people who weren't there to see it as you did. The canadian Rockies are a great place to put your camera to good use.

hey bigcoz,,thanks for being polite.. but if you have followed the
thread..my first entry was answer to hamtrack,,everyone was doing a good job for bob, except I forgot to give my welcome..
#1first tangent[hijack]was referenceses to "simon says",after Rhinos nice?? remarks..
#2 hamtrack made his comments and posted a pic..no complaint from me,and I welcomed him cause he's my age..
also critiqued his pic[durned good]..
#3 I deciced to post a pic for all the Rhinos out there,to get some of their bilge out..maybe they would cool off enough "think" with their brain instead of ego/fears...
#4 while doing that,I thought of all our Program" doctors
[nothing against them--I just don't know how-and don't really want to know how... but thought it would give them the chance to change my mind..[may be an OLD dog--but I LOVE to learn new tricks[whether I use them or not..]..
so I apologize to you and any others that might be offended..

I'm thoroughly enjoying this site perhaps, even too much given the amount of time spent here since finding it and have only come across one person who was a turn-off and I didn't have any interaction with them, just my opinion in reading through. There are people from every level willing to share technical knowledge or what their experience has been. A few who don't mince words and probably should be a little more sensitive to someone trying to learn and offering what they feel is their best but if the person learns something sobeit. There are subjects I might be outspoken on because I've invested time and energy and consider myself knowledgeable in them and others that I have to take a back seat and digest because I'm a newbie myself. Like everyone else, there are images I see that I really like, others are ho-hum, some are just not my cup of tea and others that are badly in need of help. Best of all, I like the community feel of this place.
