Best Laptop for editing...?

I bought a laptop 2 years ago and bought all the upgrades for photo editing. What a disaster. Never again an HP with windows for me. This crashes in the middle of editing and has been to shop 3 times. They said maybe a mother board replacement but in this model it be cheaper to buy a new laptop. Back to Apple for me. HP wants big bucks to even talk to you

Odd.
I have an HP laptop and desktop, they're working just fine. Prior desktop (12 years old) was an HP also.

It depends I always like the HP and have good luck with them but never a Dell.

I had a Toshiba laptop for about 12 years. It was great.
Alas, Toshiba quit making consumer laptops otherwise I would have bought another.
I never had a Dell. My wife had a Dell desktop years ago and loved it.

i use a Dell G7 with an Nvidia GPU, 16 GB RAM 1 TB SSD, Windows 11 Pro. It renders RAW photos in well under 5 seconds. I don't concern myself too much with color accuracy; I'm a rank amateur and I can almost always get something I like in PP.

I talked to a lot of graphic designers before I switched to a laptop. All of them said to get a MacBook. I’ve been using MacBook Pros for more than 10 years. I just upgraded to my second one and couldn’t be happier.

I’ve used nothing but Dells for 30+ years including a number of desk and laptops. One “all-in-one” desktop was a certified headache, but the rest have been reliable workhorses. The biggest reason for replacing has usually been due to slowness caused by not enough memory for resource gobbling software. I’d love to be able to say that my current one, a XPS 17, is the last I’ll need, but it likely ain’t so. My wife switched to a MacBook Pro a few years ago and recently replaced it with a MacBook Air. She’ll never go back. Others love Lenovo, or Asus, or HPs, etc. To each his own….

This is the time of the year for the best deals. Look for a laptop with a 16" screen and look toward a gaming laptop. They will have the fastest processor and memory. To future proof your machine, get at least an 8 gigabyte graphics card and 32 gb of memory. Last year a bought a Lenovo with a 12" screen because I use it for work as well. It works perfectly with PS and LR classic as well as all the Topaz software.

You would if you tried to use advanced image processing. Some PS shop tools are unavailable, and others including tools like Topaz take so long to process/render that they’re essentially unusable. And stacking and panoramics? Better get a good book to read if they’ll render at all, and things will only get worse if you work with images as tools get more complex and images get larger. The world of computing is headed toward GPUs, and investing in new equipment without considering that is a mistake.

I don't use "PS" per se, (I have three editors, Probably none of which are "up to snuff".)
I suppose if I did that kind of editing...
But I don't, so I have no problem whatsoever with the computers I have.
Maybe when people say "Get <this item>." they should explain why instead of just get.
Some people don't do processing that might require a Cray.

I don't think that laptops are great but Orphoto's advice is good. You will also want the largest laptop possible although this reduces portability.

I use a laptop with a 15.6 in screen, but I also have a second monitor that is a 24 inch screen. For me the key specs were enough memory (I got 32 GB), enough video RAM (I got 4 GB) and a reasonably current processor. I don't use the laptop screen for processing if I'm at home, and I do minimal processing on the road. For me, the smaller screen does not have enough room for the image and the Affinity Photo or Lightroom controls large enough for my poor vision. And sometimes I use my 42 inch TV as a second monitor.

I also have a Dell G15 and agree. It does the job. Not the fastest computer but fast enough for PS and LR

My laptop just crashed it was so old it's crawl took it sometimes 3 4 or 5 minutes just to boot up I got a new one at Costco and had it on sale on if they still do it's MSI gaming machine and it's a screaming machine I kid you not I got one with I think it's sick I have to look it up 64 bit of memory 8 on a on a card great memory card the only problem with it that came with Windows 11 and I can't figure out how the hell to download stuff how much is Bill some private messages I know he uses it a little bit but you'll get lots of information game machines usually come pretty well stocked already with with enough memory and everything the only thing you need to get there pretty lights it flashing on and off I can care less about that the MSI makes a great machine.
I've been in the hospital for the last 10 weeks and I still don't know what's wrong with me after losing my left testicle and also a biopsy of the brain when I get it all figured out I'll report back but you can't go wrong with that MSI at Costco. Btw this one boss in 20-30 second s, not minutes ,
