"...clean design..." isn't always what users want. Remember DOS? That had a clean design - a black screen with a blinking cursor.

I'm postponing Win11 as long as I can.

Why?
It's there most stable OS I've ever used.
Started on 3.0.

Well, finally got up the courage to turn on the new (refurb) computer being just certain that Dell had again pulled their bonehead silliness and put the OS on the mechanical drive instead of the SSD as the service rep had told me. Lo and behold, he was wrong and Windows 11 is on the SSD and the D drive is empty except for hidden files. So now all I need to do is figure out how to port the Win 10 machine's programs and files to the new one, I'll be in hog heaven. I already have a Win 11 laptop, so I won't need as much time to get used to that part of it.

The setup files are most likely in your old download folder. copy them to a flash drive, insert the drive into the Win 11 computer. open the set up files and double click the ones you want installed. Done!! Good luck!

I installed Win 10 Pro within 3 weeks of its original issue. Never had any issues. I did the same with Win 11 Pro in 2021. I have not experienced any issues with it. I only see minor differences between Win 10 & Win 11.

Mark, I am with you on my experience with Win 10 and Win 11. I think part of the problem is persons who are committed to another operating system and then use Windows will find it strange. We will tailor our OS too work as we like it to, so that after a few years it just feels comfortable and other things seem strange. --Richard

I never will go to a MAC.

Sorry, I must have been half asleep when I posted. I was attempting to point out that people are not abandoning Windows and moving over to MACs in mass. I do have to admit that the new MACs with the M3 chip does pique my interest but I do not see any reason to switch at this point. I use Windows 11 and find it to be stable and can be easily configured to meet my expectations and needs. So does my Dell XPS 17 laptop. I can up the laptop's memory and drive space myself, unlike newer MACs. That is why I will probably never go to a MAC although the new M3 chip products sure look interesting.

Your easiest option would be to Google and install the Win10 drivers for the model (they will work for Win11) and use the built-in "Windows Fax and Scan" to scan.

Hope that helps!

Thank You!! Windows Fax and Scan works. I already had the windows 10 drivers installed.

How do you turn off "One Drive?"

Thank you, thank you, thank you! One down and a gazillion to go. The one I tested on was my editing software, so that's the most important and it works.

Lots of ways to transfer everything over to the new machine (there are aps that will automate it), but here’s what I prefer:

1) run Belarc advisor on the old machine and print it out as a reference
2) copy over the download folder in whatever manner you prefer and install all your old aps that you wish on the new machine, using the data from Belarc for logins and PWs.
3) copy documents, program data, favorites, cookies and any mail client files and import them into the appropriate aps such as browser and mail client.

You can move the data via your network, the cloud, a drive or a USB “thumb drive”. I like to use the local network and then keep the old machine (which already has all your data) as a backup server. If you use the network, you may have to modify the write permissions on the new machine.

Just some thoughts…

Thanks! My pics are on my "D" drive where I want them, but my photo editor only looks in "C"... any thoughts on that?

Is there a "default directory" available in the setup (settings/tools)?

Two of my editors remember the directory and drive I last used (accessed).
