Driving across Kansas on rt 36 on a frosty early morning. Just before dawn I passed this old farmhouse and had to whip around to take a few shots. As I had recently purchased an HDR program I did three shot bursts at one stop intervals to see what I could do with the program. My aim was to get the farmhouse as true to what I was seeing as possible. That slightly exaggerated the sky but not too much. The Great Plains can really do a show with sunrise/sunset scenes without much help.
No 1 was using the HDR program.
No 2 was minimally processed using PhotoNinja and GIMP.
What do you think?

It's #1, a great swan song for that old house.
Doesn't get better than that!!! Cheers -- Dan
Thanks for the info. On my way to Virginia rt 36 was the best way to avoid construction on I80. I was so impressed with the absolutely lovely small towns and countryside I followed 36 from Hannibal to almost North Platte. Spent two lovely but rainy days in Hannibal and a full day in Marysville. I am hoping to return to VA next year and will likely revisit parts of 36.
I like @1, but you might think about cropping or cloning out the highway. . . .
Thank you, I am still experimenting with PP. There is so much going on as far as Dynamic Range, color subtleties and sharpness vs softness that there is plenty to work with.
Thanks for your comment. I considered doing just that but hesitated. I think if I had added more foreground it could have added to the story but the road as shot did turn out to be more of a distraction.
