If I remember correctly years ago almost everyone insisted that their product not be sold less than X price. The government stopped that with a fair-trade act. I don't remember when but that rule has slowly disappeared. anyone know how, why, when?
Fair Trade Laws were established by states and allowed (or perhaps required) retailers to sell at a price set by the manufacturer or distributor. The intention was to prevent large sellers from using predatory pricing to drive small sellers out of business or out of the market using excessively low prices.
Current camera pricing agreements prescribe a required minimum price. Licensed retailers etailers are free to sell at or above that price, but not below it. I have found it interesting that both B&H and Walmart sell a tiny bit lower than just about everyone else. I suspect that they are selling at the minimum price, and tlothers are sliding up to a more "standard" pricing amount.
