Exactly right. It is a loss leader designed to get people into the store where they might buy that item but more than likely will purchase other items as well.

Big dealers like B&H and Adorama have lower price than dealers that only sell a few but they are all forced to sell at the same price so B&H and Adorama can surely give away some stuff to get more sales.

It is a loss leader. Lots of stores do this to get you to come in and buy that item and while you're there you buy other stuff. Lost leaders are items that are they pay very little for and have a huge Marck up. Some stores like camera stores added in the price of the camera hoping you will buy from them
