You've heard of TMI (Too Much Information)? This is TLI (Too Little Information). Much depends on the 9 year old's personality. Without knowing that, I can't make a recommendation. If the child is high energy something like the tough TG6. If quiet and curious a bridge camera might be best. Otherwise...

My 9 yo grandson has expressed an interest in a digital camera.
He lives in London.
Probably get on Amazon in the UK although have enough time now to mail I believe.
Presumably want small, ability to easily upload photos to somewhere ( computer, internet, etc)
Suggestions please.
Thanks
If you are interested in Nikon Grays of Westminster would be a place to look. They have a website with new and used Nikon products. If you are buying you can shop on their site and have it shipped to your grandson.

I guess I come from a different time. Doesn't this kid have parents or a parent in England? They could take him to a local store and get him an inexpensive, easy to use camera. I guess I didn't want high dollar items when I was a kid and but certainly wouldn't have expected my parents or let alone my grandparents to foot the bill. Whatever happened to kids figuring out how to entertain themselves. Perhaps when we can't give them ourselves, we substitute money or things that cost money.

Youre obviously not a grandparent! when Daddy/Mama says no! Papa/Grandma says yes!

This item is a piece of junk. It is no more than a toy at best. It is being marketed under any number of names but is still a joke. To call it a camera is an insult to real cameras.
Let a "nine year old kid" have a toy to play with. Next week it might be something else.

Grandparents should be able to give their grandchildren gifts. The Internet makes ordering gifts across an ocean trivial. As for what's appropriate for a 9 year old, that's up to the parents and common sense.
You are correct about the "common sense" not seeing much of that here.

When I was probably that age my parents upon my request bought me a Kodak Instamatic 104 camera. Nearly a toy compared to any I bought myself later on. Most kids today already have a "camera", a SmartPhone. Works better as a camera and tiny web computer than a Phone.
Well then let the kid use his phone as a camera. This makes more sense than buying him a camera that could cosst several hundred dollars that he might soon lose interest in.
How about that 100 megapixel Fuji medium format? or the latest Hasselblad? And don't forget get to get the kid a set of lenses.

Uh huh. And turning to the Clown Car for advice ignores the parents and banishes common sense :-(
I live in the UK and suggest you might look at MPB UK site. The cameras are good quality and less costly than new and if it turns out to be not required by your grandchild you can resell it to MPB.
Would not buy a camera for a 9 yr old, last yr my 9 yr old great granddaughtewr took an interest in photography, especially my old film cameras. Gave her a N50 auto everythin g camera and after about 6 months started teachin her about shutter speed and apewrture. She's breaking me at the price of film nowadays, going on vacation in March, thinking of giving her one of my digitals, deciding on mint D200, 7000 acuations because of skin tones ( she takes a lot of photos of her friends) and a refurbished D300, 150,000 actuations because of slightly improved features.
