My 9 yo grandson has expressed an interest in a digital camera.

He lives in London.

Probably get on Amazon in the UK although have enough time now to mail I believe.

Presumably want small, ability to easily upload photos to somewhere ( computer, internet, etc)

Suggestions please.

Thanks

Let them figger this out in London.

You are an ocean and several time zones away, and apparently do not have a ready solution in mind to recommend to them.

Asking the Hawgsters will get you nowhere.
If perhaps you *do* have an idea or two, just recommend whatever that is. Bouncing it offa the bozos will not fine tune it or clariify it.

Or just call B&H saying "I need a point & shoot for school kid, so must have social networking connectivity." Yes they are very busy holiday sales season NYC types, and will upsell you somewhat. But youll still be spending $$ more wisely that way rather than letting the clown car help spend it for you. Plus its quickly over and done.

I have NO clue what camera you need or even whether anyone is still making them ... BUT !!! I certainly know very well who to ask and who NOT to ask.

Any of the Olympus Tough TG cameras, built for kids, kid proof, takes pictures under water, drop proof to fifteen feet and the newer ones take decent phones, from TG2 and up

Be aware that if you buy the camera in the US it will have a wall plug commensurate with our standards and he will need an adapter to mate it with the UK standard.

Are you thinking to buy it here and ship it internationally ? You realize that cameras contain lithium ion batteries ?! Best to let Amazon UK deal with it.

Just my 2ยข. I let my granddaughter try my Sony A6000 when she was 8 and she loved it, so I bought her her own A6000 from a fellow hogger. It's the perfect size for her and she likes that she has a camera like grandpa. It's low maintenance and has been trouble free. She can shot in automatic, aperture priority, shutter priority or manual. Do a little homework and I'm pretty sure you'll be pleased with what this little "gem" can do. She's now 10 and pretty good with it. I bought her a tripod which she gets a kick out of using. I've got a half dozen lenses that we trade back and forth. I love our photo "expeditions"!! They're very reasonably priced too. I would check with MPB as they sell in the US as well as Europe. I've found them to be very reasonable. Good luck.

Canon, Nikon and Sony have small handheld digital cameras which you can take photos and print them out or load them into a computer.. They are about 20 mega pixels and run under $200.00, with fixed lens and a flash.

Second the Olympus TG-6. Waterproof, freeze proof, high resolution bright, 4K Video, 44x macro -- he can drop it, step on it, take it into a snowstorm, go body surfing with it. Nothing thwarts it.

I live in the US and buy frequently from Amazon UK. I do this when I send gifts to friends over there. Every once in awhile my bank's fraud dept. asks me to verify a purchase, but it's no big deal.

I guess I come from a different time. Doesn't this kid have parents or a parent in England? They could take him to a local store and get him an inexpensive, easy to use camera. I guess I didn't want high dollar items when I was a kid and but certainly wouldn't have expected my parents or let alone my grandparents to foot the bill. Whatever happened to kids figuring out how to entertain themselves. Perhaps when we can't give them ourselves, we substitute money or things that cost money.

Your sentiment sorta ignores that theres an ocean and several time zones in the way. OTOH I spoze we both agree that the whole idea is foolishness. Quintessential UHH.

The child is nine...

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CH7V3Q7H

It's a 50 dollar digital camera...that sort of acts like one. I reviewed this product myself as a promotional item.

For 50 dollars...it delivers. It gives a taste of what a camera can do...and it looks and feels like one.
It even has ibis...ridiculous perk at the price...and you can see the difference.

A small investment for a small child...just let them play with it...see where it goes.

I was 9 when I started with a Kodak Brownie Instamatic. Nowadays, the idea of the Olympus Tough or similar camera would be a great idea. I would send the money to the parents, have them do the buying, wrap it with a note you could send "From Grandpa".

There are a couple kids cameras at b&h that either upload from camera to save out of camera or actual tiny instant photo like a Polaroid. Saw the 2 in they're weekly sales emails. I'm sure they have them in the UK at either a large camera shop like in the US or UK Amazon.
