B&H has the z800 on sale for 3695 -- 300 off the regular price. If you click Base on the options the price is as quoted. If you click on the next option it is the camera + a 128gb card + a camera case and the price is still 3695.00. Why is the giveaway at the same price as the base option?

Everyone has the Z8 at $3695 or $3699. B&H is adding incentives to get you to buy it from them rather than a competitor. Simple marketing tool.
Not all combinations of things are involved in a "sale".
Certain items (combos) only, which may not logically follow.
Nikon mandates a minimum price for their equipment. But retailers can add extras for the price.
Camera prices are regulated, they can't be discounted by authorized dealers. However, memory cards are not so to add value to an offering they add it free with a camera.

B&H does this frequently to encourage you choose them. It's added-value marketing.

Because it is called a lost leader. They figure, if they give you something, "the lost leader, in this case, a 128g card, you will buy it.
Same camera.
If you check the Z9, currently the lost leader is a spare battery and a camera bag. Or, you can buy it without the lost leader for the same price. Now, the important question, and the burning question everyone has here, WHICH ONE WLL YOU BUY?
That's a big DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AND RIGHT NOW THEY HAVE ADDED A CAMERA BAG, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!!!!!! duh!!!!
I recently purchased a Z lens from them. They had the lens listed and another option on the page was the lens with a UV filter for the same price. Did the freebie motivate me to purchase? Now that I think of it; probably.
If you a person who like to buy...bundles...shop at Adorama...not B&H.
They do far more bundling.

I'm not -- pulled the trigger last night!
Not a lost leader, ( thats when the Lieutenant loses his way)
The term "Loss Leader" means advertising certain items usually a limited number at a price below your coat (at a loss) to lead people to the site or into a store with a chance for an 'Upsell"
The reason for the free stuff is that Manufacturers set the Minimum selling price, so many dealers will have the same price. In order to get you to buy from them they are allowed to give other stuff at no cost. Often it is stuff you would never buy, a slow memory card or a cheap bag, but sometimes the stuff might be useful.
Bill-You are correct except that it is called a “loss leader” not a “lost leader”. The retailer takes a loss in the item they offer. Nothing is “lost”.

The other items are basically give away. They are called leaders. A lot of stores do this grocery stores Big lots stock stores they all have these cheaper things that they can take a loss on to get you to buy and it make their money in bulk sales the items are usually so cheap for negative only price and they don't really lose anything.
Leaders are items that they pay very little for and mark up the price super high. Hi markups items.
So, I had a free moment and looked this up.
It's the cyber Monday price...can be found all over the place.
Adorama throws in a 300 dollar flash unit (the excellent AD100)...for the very same price.
