Someone gifted me an old Yashica MAT-124G camera that had belonged to a relative. It looks clean and shiny but I know nothing about them. How do I find someone to check it out? Hopefully there are YouTubes for using it.
Can someone point me in a good direction? I am not interested in selling it.
Thanks.
My first Reflex Camera was a Yashicaflex TOO many years ago!
I think that the G stands for the gold contacts inside the camera.

I have one that my brother gave me. It's in mint condition. I had one several years ago and traded it in for a Mamiya C330. The C330 is showing its age.

60 years ago..... Yashica D camera in my hands.... yearbook photographer back then.... young buck then old white hair fat guy now... many cameras since then... now I've graduated from the Nikon D850 to the Nikon Z8 and Z6II
I still love this world of photography! A sad note here... I have so many of my photos used as Mass cards for funerals of my collection of friends and family.

Great image. Thanks for sharing this blast from the past.

Great find ... been using one for the last couple of years ... for service I would recommend Bob Sara at CLS Studios
(
https://www.facebook.com/yashicarepaircenter/) ... not cheap and takes a long time, his waiting list is long, long, long ...
For information check (
https://www.facebook.com/groups/421243761372153) ... one of the better FaceBook sites ...
you can also pickup some other repair guys there ...!
When I first got it mine looked mint on the outside (ordered from Japan) but the inside was so gummed up the parts hardly moved ...
I really enjoy using mine ... I like to "fiddle" and using the YM124G slows you down ... but, what a joy ...

PS: I use the Darkroom for processing my film - about $20.00 a roll for postage, developing, scans, and negative return (some places don't return them) ... I use to develop my own B&W film but the chemicals would expire before I could use them up ... even shooting 35mm and 120 I never got the full use out of them ...

FYI
If your interested a company in California still sells roll film , fresh new stuff, used to buy from them in the old days, Freestyle Sales, they seem to be riding the revived interest in film photography.
Freestyle does Mail Order too, at least they did the last time I bought something from them.
I have the Yashica 124 and a Rollieflex. I really should use them. Both in mint condition, but just collecting dust lately. 😢

I still have my Yashica MAT124G. A great camera to get into the 2 1/4 square format without the great expense of other medium format cameras. I checked with B&H and they still have Ilford 120 B&W film. I was primarily B&W so I could use with my Omega B66 XL enlarger and Heathkit digital photo timer (talk about a blast from the past). The light meter failed on my camera but it still worked perfectly with a Gossen hand held light meter. I used the camera when we were in Europe between 1982 and 1985. It was a different but enjoyable experience from what I had learned using with my Minolta SRT 101. Thanks for helping me remember my time with the Yashica. Maybe I'll order up a couple roll so film from B&H, dust of the B66, and revisit my earlier experiences with B&W photography.

I haven't used mine in a really long time, but the photos that I got from them were extraordinary. I still have the negatives from them. If you need to get them developed, look at the Darkroom
