I feel I’m part of the picture in the second one. Plus I like the colors! Somehow the drops in the first make me feel separated.
Thanks for the Heirloom Tomato photo. Neat abstract.
Photo #2 looks very real, been there seen that. All green, except for the spice of the sagging red flag at the 1/3 position. The photo is left-right diagonal and the photo terminates properly far right. We see clouds in the sky they are the reason for rain. Very good photo that people can relate to.
Photo #1 is a turn off to me, perhaps the subject matter... the sun is so glaring and dominate. The sky is big and empty... says nothing to the viewer, no reason for rain. The rain is just not there in sections.
This photo I would not have displayed and would have clicked on it hit the delete key and then OK. Why keep it?
A struggling salvation would be cloning in rain lower left rain void then a tight crop around the sun keeping the silhouette to support in landscape mode . The sun is too bright and could be muted [with what?].
I like #2, but with just a tad less rain.
Too much water in the second shot? Nope--it's my favorite if the two. I like them both, Linda--nice idea.

Thanks very much for your in-depth response, Don.

Thanks! This photo is real insofar as the raindrops were already on the car's windshield when I was taking photos from inside the car
Attached below is the raw file. If you have the time and interest, I'd be grateful for any ideas and inspiration.

Thanks for your interest, John. I remember a few times in the past, trying to shoot through
rain while sitting in the car, but had no success. I learned a bit about subject matter and lighting relative to any success with this idea, so that helped.
One of our UHH UK buddies years ago shared a photo of a rainy street he photo'd from inside a home or business that was awesome!
Like the second one I have done a fair amount of this type of work and I think the second one is more realistic

Thanks! Realism is often not a goal in Digital Artistry section
For both of these I intensified the colors and contrast quite a bit, along with other edits.
I agree realistic is a poor choice of words to describe this entry into digital artistry

I was just feeling a bit silly this morning
Reality is often a goal of those who do composite work, and we often have conversations about scale, "grounding" and other elements that make a scene feel real. Didn't mean to come across as flippant, as Digital Artistry section has wide-ranging interests and styles.
Thanks very much for your visit, Blair. Glad you enjoyed!
Nice images. I like #2 of the two. . . .
