Really liked the dry creek photos, or what looked like a dry creek.

I've always wanted to check out Silver City, and now your photos confirm my suspicions.

It's a nice enough little town, though not as trendy as Ruidoso, which is fine with me. I spend all my free time in the Gila National Forest (when I'm not road-tripping to Florida) which does include desert areas.

As I mentioned in my last post, fall might not seem so quiet here, color-wise, if I hadn't missed most of it by being in Florida, but that can't be undone. And there are still plenty of lovely places to be discovered if one will just look. These are from some of the hikes I've taken since I got home. Some of you may be surprised to see that we have both fog and aspen trees down this way; it isn't all desert and rattlesnakes. I hope you enjoy these scenes and find them as soul-soothing as I did.
As I mentioned in my last post, fall might not see... (show quote)

I like them. Very nice.

We have a cabin right behind K-Bob's in Ruidoso with a view of Sierra Blanca. The drive from there to Cloudcroft is one of the best anywhere. And then the BBQ at Mad Jack's is the best anywhere.
Thanks for these great photos. Down in the 20s at night this week in Ruidoso. Much needed rain today in the cross timbers of Texas, 474 miles from Ruidoso.

We could use some of that rain here! I'm glad you liked the photos.

As always, looking forward to my next trip to NM. Will be there first week in January at Ruidoso and at Sunland Park. Looking forward to seeing the snow on Sierra Blanca and taking the drive up to Cloudcroft. Taking that drive to Cloudcroft one June evening some 20 years ago when it was really dry we must have seen 1,000 elk coming down on the reservation to get a drink. Amazingly I did not even have an i-phone to get a photo of the spectacular site.

I know how that goes! The one time I saw a mountain lion sunning itself atop a cliff across a canyon, I had neither camera nor phone. But I knew what I saw! I hope your trip in January is wonderful. I like winters here; I like photographing snow and especially ice formations, but going into this winter it doesn't look good for the streams forming ice. They kind of need water first.

So where do you live? . . . if you don't mind.
Due to my job with TRACK Magazine I was able to spend 34 nights in Ruidoso this year. Have been going to races there every summer since 1972.
Saw a lion up close (I was in the Bronco) in the Glass Mountains of Texas (south of Fort Stockton) some 40 years ago. Could not get to the camera so we quietly watched him munch on the guts from a deer that was processed the day before. Always makes a good story.

I live in Silver City, about four hours west of Ruidoso (fifty miles from Arizona, seventy miles from Mexico).
