We are taking two months starting around Christmas to do a photo tour of the SW. Our route will take us from Northern AL through MS and LA into Ft. Worth for Christmas Eve and day. From there we will head to the SE part of NM - spend a week or so in western and southwestern NM(I have already captured the central and northwest part of the state). Next on the list is AZ and Page. I want to capture Antelope Canyon, but since they no longer allow photo tours is Canyon X a viable and worthy alternative since you can book a guide and use a tripod? The You Tube videos I have watched(at least the ones by and for photographers) are not high on the Lower and Upper Canyons. Since we will be there around the mod to latter part of January, the crowds will be smaller but input from those of you who have photographed that area would be most appreciated.
Any other "do not miss" locations are also welcomed.
Thanks so much in advance...this community is always so helpful and gracious.

I have shot both Upper and Lower Antelope Canyon, and yes no more dedicated photo tours, they were clogging up the canyons. You can still make great shots on the regular tours. For Lower Antelope you want to use the original Navajo tour group Ken's tour and take the deluxe tour, 90 minutes , maximum six people vs the regular tours of 60 minutes and up to twelve people. It is worth it for the extra money for the deluxe tour. In our group on Ken's deluxe tour we only had the four of us and we all got all the shots we wanted, no tripods allowed, no tripods necessary really at all.
On our Upper Antelope tour, our Navajo guide also took us to a nearby other slot canyon after we did Upper, and it was totally uncrowded.
1) a shot from that other nearby slot canyon we did on same tour after doing Upper Antelope. This photo was chosen as a Worldwide Photo of the Week by Sony Alpha Photographers in 2021. Environmental Scientist Brooke Canyon. Sony A9 camera, Sony 24-105mm f4 G OSS lens, 24mm, ISO 400, f4, 1/30 sec. handheld, all natural sunlight in the canyon.
2-4) a few shots from the Upper Antelope tour. If you point your camera up a bit you can shoot without getting the crowds in the shots .
5-9) a few shots from Ken's deluxe tour of Lower Antelope Canyon . Sony A7RIV and Tamron 17-28mm f2.8 lens.
10) from a slot canyon near Upper Antelope that our Navajo tour guide took us to after we tour Upper Antelope Canyon. This is my version of the kind of sand-in-the air shots that guides used to set up on the photo tours, one-by-one for each photographer.

Again book the Ken's Deluxe tour for Lower Antelope Canyon. It is worth it for anyone who wants more time, and less crowds for your photos. All shots were made handheld. You dont need to bring a tripod, and they aren't allowed in Upper or Lower Antelope anymore anyway. I dont get anything for recommending Ken's, they are just the best IMHO. The Ken's guides know all the right exposures and best compositions for getting the best shots .
