It's the norm here (U.K.), text via mobile normally within 30 seconds, sometimes a minute. There's an option to resend a code if it doesn't get here - but we've never needed it.

I found that some companies send the same code when asked to resend, some provide a new code with each send.
For <delayed> emails, hard to tell which email is which (first or second, did the first get lost?) if they take so long to receive...

I have one bank that always requires sending me a confirmation code, but then they ask ME for the cell phone number to send it to. Now what good is that? Any hacker could put in his own number!

I'll take note next time I look at the bank a/c but I think mine says 'send a NEW code'. I've had emails get lost in the electronic ether, I look upon it as the internet equivalent of odd socks in the washing machine.

Some do say "Send new code".
Some just say "Resend Code".
To me there is a difference.

I almost laughed when my fuel oil supplier tried to print a receipt for me, and his printer wouldn't work. He had to go to another printer.

As much as a PITA two-factor can be on occasion, it has definitely caught “people” in the act trying to access accounts of mine. It’s easily worth the once in a while annoyance.

Most definitely.
If I log into Google my phone asks if it was I.

You can never have too much security - think about using 2 factor authentication, a good antivirus program and a VPN for starters.

Verification codes are an excellent way to protect your account. Always choose to get them via text. My experience is that they are immediate.

Have you checked your Spam folder for the "lost" ones? Sometimes for reasons beyond my comprehension they end up there.

Mine have not been lost or put in the spam folder, just delayed.
But I suppose it depends on one's filter settings.
One email actually took about 4 hours to be received. Yea, it finally showed up.
