Interesting line of logic here when the suggestion is to call Adobe when you are on a $10 per month plan. Skilled labor for everything from home to car repair is over $100 and hour.

How much Adobe handholding should we expect? Would it be more effective to buy a well structured class aimed at beginners?

Have used Adobe Help many times. They have bailed me out of what I thought were unsolvable problems. They are skilled technicians ,and will spend as much time as needed to fix problems. They will take control of the computer most times, and not only fix the problems. They also will go through the computer to make it run more efficiently etc. Well worth the monthly payment

Have you ever used Adobe support? I would guess no the way you are disparaging them. I certainly wouldn't recommend spending money on support or classes before trying them. Their support is part of what you are paying them for the subscription.

Yes, I have used Adobe support. I'm part of it. The current Adobe support system is in tiers.

The bottom level is their forum system. Each product has a forum. Adobe has recruited about 300 "Community's Experts" that answer questions in those forums. I'm one of them. I try to answer at least one question a day. We get free software for our efforts and permission to call ourselves "Adobe Community Experts". It is a very efficient system. Some programs, like Photoshop Elements, have a link to the correct forum in the Help menu. Lightroom Classic does not, so you have to look for it a little bit.

The next level up is the "chat" system. It is all online and staffed by Adobe techs worldwide. The work from computers and may work a few customers at a time. They can assume control of you computer. You get to it here: https://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html?rghtup=autoOpen

The third level is the phone call. From Adobe's point of view it is the most expensive, and therefore, the least preferred.

Adobe support is great. A few weeks ago I had an issue with Lightroom and someone in India logged into my PC to evaluate the issue and diagnose the problem. I received an email a couple of days later with instructions on what to do to resolve the issue and he even followed up with 2 more emails later on to make sure everything was working as expected. Great service!

Did you make the initial contact by phone or "chat"? Did you try the Lightroom forum first?

It takes twice if not 3 times as long to resolve issues using the chat system. Weather they like it or not, I go for the phone support.

That's good to hear.

My experience is that the easier issues resolve fastest on the forums. I've had quick response on the chat system, but that varies on workload and time of day. Based on forum comments, phone support can get backed up too.

Yes, that's true. I don't recall it ever taking too long. Also, while you are waiting for a phone call back you can be doing other things. If you are in a chat trying to resolve and issue, you are tied up while the support rep keeps asking you to try things etc. You are paying them monthly for upgrades and support. Use it to your advantage.

I have totally ruined my relationship with Photoshop (Which I probably should never ever have tried to work with). I am unable to function in a presentable manner. What I need is some competent computer skilled person who can lay hands on my famitchked history of photography and help me make sense of my library/files/printing and on and on! I am willing to pay for this service. I live in the Kansas City area. Am retired and have plenty of time to work with somone from out of state or in state.
I don't think many folks will believe or understand the complications I have gotten myself into. Only answer if you have tons of patience and fortitude.

Tom,
Greetings. Wondering if we may have crossed paths while you were at LM. I knew quite a few people there in Fort Worth and other plants. I ran the 6 day auction sale of the Abilene, Texas plant when it shut down for Steve Wiggins.

I would also love to see your photos.
Best regards
RL

Karta,
This is such a wide open question. There is a lot of knowledge in this group and helping us to know a little more about your problem, can certainly help us direct you to the help you need. If you can just describe your issue a bit, I’ll bet that the help you need will be better directed to you, and quickly.

If your looking for someone to physically be there & walk you through it, you might consider checking your local education like maybe some night classes or un-credited college courses. Maybe searching out for a local high school or college student might help 7 start with some basic file structure & then move to the Adobe products. As far as Lightroom & Photoshop courses go there are a few. Scott Kelby & one of his past instructors, Matt Klokowaski has his own LR & PS courses that reside on your computer for a set price. (or at least did a couple of years ago & he probably still works that way.

https://f64academy.com/sign-up/ This guy might offer one on one.

http://www.outdoorexposurephoto.com/ I'm pretty sure this one will offer one on one also but one on one's are most likely pretty expensive & from these 2 would be via the internet & maybe you get on something like Zoom & letting someone view your computer.

Good luck, Tom

If your files are disorganized, you should open File Explorer. The icon is a small yellow icon that looks like a small file folder with a blue bar at the bottom. It is on your taskbar. Then click on the Pictures word on the left column of the window. That will open a Pictures directory. Then explore that to see what is stored in the Pictured directory.

If there are no sub-directories on the Pictures file, decide on how you want to sort the photos. It could be by year, or by subject or by event. For example: Grandchildren, Flowers, Nature, Pets, Wild Animals, or the names of people, a vacation, etc. Once you have determined the file names you can click on the word NEW, which appears at the top-left corner of the window and create your sub-directories in the Pictures main directory.

If you already have some photos in the Pictures directory, begin sorting them into the new directories you created.

If your photos are scattered about in different directories, or are in the Documents directory, you will need to search for them and move them to the sub-directories you created in the Pictures directory.

If you have a Cloud directory set-up with Adobe or Microsoft and you want them on your computer, you will have to copy them to sub-directories in your Pictures directory.

After every photo file is located and organized, be sure to buy an external solid-state drive that is large enough and back-up all your personal files. I would hate to see you do all that work and then lose everything in a computer crash.

To find photos in random locations that have been lost in cyber hell, you can do a general "wild card search" to find them or, at the top bar of the Documents folder, click on the "Filter" icon that looks like a funnel and select the images category. You can then search every directory in which you might have saved photos and move the ones you want into the Pictures sub-directories you created.

Once you have sorted and arranged your photos, you can open Photoshop and, when the welcome screen appears, click on the word Open and navigate to your Pictures directory and find the images you want to process.

ONCE AGAIN: BE SURE TO BACKUP EVERYTHING TO AN EXTERNAL DRIVE! I have lost some of by best photos because I neglected this important safeguard.
