Wow! That's an awesome shot! Love the water flying into the air and the bears eyes looking directly at you.

Funny! Good advice, don’t go trick or treating in bear country dressed like a salmon! I’ll be sure to remember that.

Or smelling like one…..

Nice shooting! Love the intense expression on the bear's face and the look in its eyes. WOW! Before I got to Alaska late September, I was warned quite strongly about staying off those mud flats. Was walking a beach area along Cook Inlet right at the west end of the runway of ANC. As soon as my shoes started to sink in ever so slightly I knew it was time to back off and get the video I sought from a safer distance.

Exactly!! I would rather be eaten by a bear than stuck in mud with the tide coming in….

I agree with PAR4DCR. Cropping the second bear out makes a more powerful image. I think the second bear isn't doing anything so don't include it.

I agree, just would have liked both crops.

That first shot is absolutely riveting. I'd blow that up big and have it on a wall. Super shot, Beth.

Appreciate it!!!

Very nice shot, but you could be right about the shutter speed. It is really hard for my old eyes to distinguish slight motion blur. I often experience having the wrong shutter speed when unexpected action occurs.

The low light was keeping me from having a faster shutter speed. The bears were just walking slowly, till they were not!

I skipped back to Alaska and looked for a photo I hoped turned out. This was a bucket list photo of a bear running right towards me in Lake Clark. I can't say this is exactly what I wanted, but it is as close as I got this trip.

I was not really ready for it when this bear suddenly decided to run in our direction. Due to it being overcast I was keeping my shutter speed down to keep the ISO down while the bears were not doing much except digging in the sand and mud for clams. So, when this happened I was only at 1/800 second, 324mm focal length.
I attached a screen shot of the crop. So yes it did get close, but at some point it noticed us and veered off. I have a couple more after this was taken, but they are not as good.

This means I will have to go back and work on getting the exact shot I thought I wanted...
Hope you like it.

A fantastic shot!!! I think if you include the other bear, the photo is "bears playing"; but the bear running fast towards your position is a spectacular and intimidating photo.

I agree, but thought it would be fun to have both.
