I skipped back to Alaska and looked for a photo I hoped turned out. This was a bucket list photo of a bear running right towards me in Lake Clark. I can't say this is exactly what I wanted, but it is as close as I got this trip.
I was not really ready for it when this bear suddenly decided to run in our direction. Due to it being overcast I was keeping my shutter speed down to keep the ISO down while the bears were not doing much except digging in the sand and mud for clams. So, when this happened I was only at 1/800 second, 324mm focal length.
I attached a screen shot of the crop. So yes it did get close, but at some point it noticed us and veered off. I have a couple more after this was taken, but they are not as good.
This means I will have to go back and work on getting the exact shot I thought I wanted...
Hope you like it.
This looks better in download. I'm just happy it is relatively in focus.

I sort of wish I had gotten all of the other bear in the frame. But I did not have time to zoom out and work on composition. It happened sort of fast....

Awesome shot Beth. I Like the single bear in the image vs two bears.

Wow, what a scary action shot
I’ll bet you ran immediately after you snapped the shot. 😄
I think your shot is best as is, the other bear can only dilute the drama.
As is the energy is palpable, it’s a very dramatic shot.
Congrats! Also, Are you nuts?!?!

That is sure an exciting shot, and experience! Glad you got that excellent, hoped for shot!!! The cropped version is better than with the other included, in my opinion, also. It places your undivided attention on the main subject!
We went to Katmai in 2014, so it is very similar to the 'next door' Lake Clark National Park. We sure didn't get anything near as exciting as your photos! Katmai is still at my 'Top of the list" places to revisit!... And go to Lake Clark, also! Lol, my wife says NO! It is sure one exciting, beautiful area!!! We had a brown get withing 15 feet (not counting the baby that walked RIGHT BESIDE her side of the car).
Excellent, Beth. I think you did better than most would have done.
Great shot!!! He looked just like my grandson heading for McDonald’s.
Wow Beth.!!
What an exciting action shot. I think this turned out fantastic especially with the situation.
This is a wall hanger for sure.
Nice shot. Be careful what you wish for and be careful out there!
That's a great shot--and scary!
Amazing shot, Beth. Beautifully composed and fabulous detail. Very nicely done.
