Diamondbacks are going to the Series only to be knocked off in five games - The Rangers made it in 2010 and lost to the San Francisco Giants. They made it again in 2011 and lost to the St. Louis Cardinals. Maybe the third time is the charm.

That's too bad. I didn't know it was predetermined. On the other hand, you seem very certain of the exact outcome for the DBacks while pointing out that the Rangers have a history of losing, not winning 4 out 5. I guess I'll just let the boys play...

It kind of kills the meaning of the regular season, doesn't it? I remember looking at the sports section each day to see where my Tigers stood in the pennant race. For instance, the four game series with the Yankees at the end of 1961 still haunts me. The only good thing about it (being a Tigers fan) was Yogi's fake trow to second drawing the runner off third whom he then picked off.

How about the '64 Phillies. 6-1/2 game lead with 12 left to play. Then the Phamous Phillies Phold. No pennant that year.

What a boring World Series. The best teams couldn't even get out of the 1st round.

I won't go that far, but this year all the big guns were dispatched in very short order, I guess proving once again that ALL professional teams are good and can get hot or cold at any time. I'm just glad that the DBacks got hot (again) exactly when they did. All the division winners were ultimately eliminated, and the two who won when it counted most are right where they want to be.

You're right, but the 162 game season shows which teams can win over the long haul. I know, baseball has changed with a total of 32 teams vs. half of that when I was growing up. In the old days every game was important. Today? A loss just might mean being a wild card instead of winning the division.
