Sellers:especially on a higher priced item, a neutral place to meet with a friend or relative cash only terms. If you have a frequented connivence store that you have a re pore with the clerks they may help in verifying currency authenticity.
Buyers: Same

State your terms when selling. No shipping, cash only, whatever your terms are. I use cell phone and request text only. When a buyer papers serious, we will have a phone conversation to set up a meeting to exchange cash for goods. Yes, there seems to be a growing number of scammers out there. Most of them are very unskilled at their craft.

Knopless is right. You need to pay attention to the buyer's and seller's ratings on ebay. I use it but feel more comfortable on Amazon. Good customer service.

Craig's List is a swamp. Watch for 'gators and snakes. They're all over. BUT... you CAN get some good deals IF you watch yourself. And you can SELL, too, just be advised.. GET PAID FIRST. USE A BLIND EMAIL ADDRESS, and NEVER give them YOUR ADDRESS! Meet at a neutral location.

I've sold quite a few items on Craig s list...a bit of caution though, have them come to you, (not to your house or place of business), have someone with you at time of exchange.

Even when you find a "real" buyer, it is not uncommon for them to come to the transaction and tell you they are $10 or $20 short. You have to be prepared to either give an unexpected discount or to walk.

I find Craig's List to be worthless. I am not one to be scammed being a very aware individual. Blurry gives good advice but aside from that I find that even if you post a completely described and nicely photographed article you will be pestered not only by scammers but would you takers as well. No matter how many times you use the word FIRM and no matter how fair your price. I will not use Craig's List any longer. Beside all that you get exposure to a very limited local market. Not the best for selling used and especially sophisticated photo equipment. I think Craig's is a PIA and I am not the most patient guy. I suffer fools poorly. There are many fools offering to buy on CL.

I have used CL locally for buying and selling photo gear. I will only buy/sell face to face and I've done pretty well. My work experience gives me a very good BS detector, so after a phone conversation with the seller/buyer, if I don't feel right about it then no deal.

I have sold iPhone and camera on Craig's List without any problems. I did get lots of odd requests like trading my camera for someone else's camera, but in each case I sold to someone local who met me in a public place with cash.

Selling on CraigsList for me would require "Cash Only" and meet at a local McDonald's, Hardee's, etc to make the exchange during a reasonable time of day!

I've sold 2 cameras thru craigslist the same way. If they talk that cousin junk I just ignore them and if they can't meet and do the deal in person, goodbye. Has to be local with cash in hand.

Has anyone ever sold to one of these adds and how can you not get ripped off?

I just saw that UHH has a selling section, has anyone had good luck there?

Thanks for any help.

I sell on Craigslist but always insist on a local cash transaction. All these scams about sending to cousin, niece, or nephew are just that scams, they will send you a fraudulent check or a fraudulent paypal payment or dispute the transaction... Best to just sell for cash, then you have no worries.

Blurry is correct. I speak from experience. Sheepishly I admit that there is an A330 Sony living with the lions in Nigeria. A fake PayPal site was the trick. Craigslist? Cash only, no shipping,,,,, No Problems.

I have bought and sold items on craigs list. You just need to sell locally that way you are sure to not be scammed. The other way is to sell using paypal as you would be protected by paypal. You would be getting your money up front so sending your camera anywhere would not matter as though money would be in your account before having to send. Yes, you can get a lot of scam offers, yet if you request paypal payment you would be okay. Doesn't matter where you go to on sites like these, you can get scr***d ,ebay or where ever, just make sure you use paypal as your payment option and include paypal fees in your payment options. Just my advice here as I have purchased and sold many numerous items over the years. Tim

I second what GannOn8r says here about using email like yahoo or gmail. That way you won't get spammed on your regular email. Tim

I have had great success with craigslist, but always meet in neutral location and cash only. There are scammers out there, but lots of honest folks as well.
