I have a rubber, retractable-to-flat lens hood that screws into my CP. Lightweight & flexible; just turn the hood, problem solved!

I have heard about people using a Dremel to cut a slot in the bottom of the lens hood to allow a finger to rotate the filter.

[i]i cut a small rectangular slot in the bottom of my hood works great and has no noticeable effect on IQ.[i/] - https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/2636376

To me a hood simply has to protect the front from stray light.
It does not have to be precisely designed for that particular lens.
Just something to shade the lens, and hopefully not interfere with the field of view if wide on a zoom.
I've even used my hand.

I've gotten to the point that unless the sun is at about the 11 AM to 1 PM position, I tend not to use the filter. Unsure other than to remove the hood of another way as my hoods do not have adjustment access holes

That's partly because what UHH calls a 'search' is almost useless. It only looks at the titles of threads. You have to know how to use a 'real' 'search' by using a search engine with the parameter 'site:uglyhedgehog.com' to limit your search to UHH.

Right. A topic like "Help" is not helpful during a search.

My camera has only hit the ground once. It was in the field on a tripod and the wind blew it over. It hit the ground lens down. The hood took the hit, not the lens.

The hood is not only for stray light.

Yea, I recently made a post (new thread) about that and how to perform a better search at UHH.

Just set it and forget it...mark it if you have to...but usually there is writing on the side of the filter.

On my Polar Pro...82mm text at 12 noon is maximum polarization.

What do you mean by 'maximum'? You don't have a choice as to degree of polarization. The choice is the angle of polarization.

I hope this question has not been asked before, I hate facing the wrath of those people with photographic minds that remember every post ever made on UHH, but here goes. I like using a lens hood on my lenses. When using a CP filter, it is rather difficult, if not impossible to adjust that filter without taking off the lens hood, adjusting the filter, then replacing the filter. Is there a better way of doing it without taking off that hood? I realize I am not the brightest bulb on the tree, so please spare the ink in trying to prove to me how stupid I am, thanks in advance!

I have encountered the same problem and the simplest solution is to get a screw in lens hood and simply screw that into the filter.

What I do is use a screw in rubber lens shade screwed into the filter,...then just rotate the shade as needed,...problem solved.

Sure you do...If I point at 90 degrees on a sunny day...and rotate my CPL...it changes over the rotation.
I can make it almost non existent to much more visible.
