Interesting--it was probably someone's pride and joy years ago.

I would believe you're right, John. Sitting atop a little hill, it dominates the small valley.

Thanks for the visit and comment.
See my remarks to manglesphoto ( Frank ) above. I will eventually dig up the story.

I'm having trouble figuring out what happened here. Looking at the front, it appears that there was once an effort to paint the front right half, as if to freshen it up. Yet a huge bush/tree type thing has grown through the front porch flooring and blocked entry to the front door. That didn't happen overnight. That huge bush thing at the front left has actually pushed some branches under the outside wood exterior planking. Again, that took some time.
Going around to the rear of the house revealed significant damage to the right rear portion....apparently due to a fire. Yet that area shows extreme weathering effects. My best guess is that quite some time ago, before the fire, they were going to fix it up a little, evidenced by the painted section. Then came the fire and they just decided to abandon the whole thing. It appeared to have once been a grand home.

Through your great skill, Tom, we can see that it was evidently once a very beautiful home. Too bad whatever happened to it happened to it but, whatever, now you've immortalized it.
Great find and capture, Tom.
Thanks for the very kind comment, Mel. Most of the time when I shoot old homes, and virtually all of the times when old barns are my subject, I draw attention to the ruins and scars. In this case, recognizing that it certainly must have enjoyed an exalted status in its glory years, I chose to put, as well as I could, its best foot forward.
Great subject and I really like the angle of shooting up towards the house. Very well done.

Thanks, Earnest.
I hadn't scored a hit all day. This jewel made up for it.
