I'm having trouble figuring out what happened here. Looking at the front, it appears that there was once an effort to paint the front right half, as if to freshen it up. Yet a huge bush/tree type thing has grown through the front porch flooring and blocked entry to the front door. That didn't happen overnight. That huge bush thing at the front left has actually pushed some branches under the outside wood exterior planking. Again, that took some time.
Going around to the rear of the house revealed significant damage to the right rear portion....apparently due to a fire. Yet that area shows extreme weathering effects. My best guess is that quite some time ago, before the fire, they were going to fix it up a little, evidenced by the painted section. Then came the fire and they just decided to abandon the whole thing. It appeared to have once been a grand home.
An oldie but with good bones, Tom!
Nice shot
Would love to hear the whole history of this house
Beautiful find and shot Tom. I sense something lurking behind that window. May I show you?

I think you're right about the " good bones ", Mike. It appeared to be substantially built with some nice details, such as seen at the peak of the roofs on the front. and some scroll work I could see around the front door.
Thanks for looking in.
I'll go for " wow " myself.
Thanks, Ken.
I appreciate you commenting.

Great image!! Tom
A few 100ks could do wonders with the house, looks like the right side was built "added on" at a later date than the left, I think I'm seeing minor differences in the "Ginger Bread" and the siding.

Thank you.
I, too, would love to know the whole story. The one-time grandeur of this place is so inconsistent with the general area. It must have struck the local folks as being the Taj Mahal.

Thanks, Jack.
For certain, you may show me. Should I arm myself appropriately ?

Thanks, Frank.
If the " Ginger Bread " you're referring to is that fancy detail work at the peak of the roof on the right, the same detail in on the left peak. It's mostly hidden by the tree and is noticeably weathered, as is most of the house.
There's a small church at the other end of the valley where I found this house. The next time I'm in that area, I'm going to stop at the church and see if someone there can provide any history of the place for me. I have found that local churches....maybe the pastor or priest or someone else....can often provide historical info for me. There have been two instances where I found no one around the church when I stopped by. I taped my business card and a note to the front door detailing why I had stopped by. Low and behold, I got a call in both instances, had a great conversation, and got the info I wanted. I'm still kind of amazed at that.
Congratulations on a great photograph of a grand old house.
