Nikon rules. Canon makes great printers.
I too started with photography while in the military. My very first SLR was a Yashica 35mm, upgraded soon to a Canon AE-1, ended up with a Canon F1. A few years later as a civilian, my F1 kit was stolen out of my vehicle, insurance replaced with an F1n and FL lenses. My first DSLR was a Nikon D3200, upgraded a few years later to a Nikon D5600, soon a D500 found its way to me. I recently bought a new Sony HX-99 to take on vacations instead of lugging a DSLR around.
Looking back, all have been good camera's...regardless of brand name.

If a picture is good, it must have came from a camera embossed with the letters C A N O N.
But if a picture is GREAT it must of came from a Nikon!!!! You have a great day.
Can we add Sony and Foveon sensors to this discussion? It isn't getting enough posts for the advertisers.

I've used both and prefer Nikon.
Okay, if you want to be serious. Here are my first two cameras. I still have them. Every Nikon since this one except for my D850 has gone to my son in-law. I have two Canon compact cameras. The G7X II gets a lot of use.
I happen to be a Nikon shooter. Any midrange to flagship camera body from a name brand manufacturer will produce quality images. Fanboys of one brand or other think their choice produces the best images! But here's the challenge, look at a group of photographic prints, and tell me which camera body/lens combination was used. Good luck on getting any right!

Buckle up...here we go again. How many pages?...10...15?
Is there a point to this?

Of course there is. Anytime we huggers see "Canon vs Nikon" we can usually count on about 10, 15 to 20 pages of comments and lately there have been more than usual.

I meant, is there any point to this debate? A waste of energy. Like debating whether Toyota or Honda makes better cars.

Sorry, I misunderstood. Chevies are better than Fords though, right?!

Actually, the title of the topic implies a debate is requested, but the text of the OP's first post is benign. "This is what I used then. This is what I use now. I don't know why." I think that this is more of an invitation for people to share their own camera history. It will end up in a debate sooner or later, but that's how this forum works. Different people read what they want into something.
As someone has pointed out, these often nonsensical or confrontational threads generate more ad revenue to keep this site up.

I have owned Hondas, Toyotas and Mazdas, and Mazda makes better cars IMHO and more fun to drive.
Cheers and best to you .
