I suspect most shooters don’t need to see the detail of those trees at a distance, or they would have walked/driven down there. I suspect they also don’t examine them with a telescope. I’m one of those who doesn’t care to see everything.
One day we will be told that we need at least 75mp. Some will believe that too.

People who are bothered by that size will chose another one. Others realize that only so much detail is needed.
Then why the obsession here in UHH for 45+mp cameras?

I have a 45 MP camera. Even use it some. But a lot of the time it's just overkill. That's why I also have a 21 MP camera that shoots just like "the big one." The majority of the time it's just right. It's really hard to tell which photograph came from which camera a lot of the time.

I hope that means they're following a policy of making each camera as good as it can be within the price restraints. Deliberately crippling mid range and low end cameras through fear of cannibalising sales at the high end will only weaken the product line-up and leave the door open for more competitive manufacturers to offer stronger options.

Do you suggest that the marketing guys are in control???? (Grin)
If this is true Nikon is in big trouble, and this would Not Make Me . . .

You can’t explain obsessions.
I have 2 Nikon FM and 1 Nikon FM2n and they are in very good condition. They are all chrome. I wish that I have the all black version.
To the point, I have a D850, cherish it; I think jpeg perfection comes out of that camera when shot medium jpeg, plenty of detail, and a nice shot of denoizing with in camera downsizing. Or shooting crop with my 80-400d.

From what I gather the Zf is equipped with the same AF as the Z8. This gives it the AF 3D tracking with subject/face/eye detection which I've found superb. For a camera half the price I believe they've done well.
It’s got the Expeed 6…so I doubt it’s the same AF as the Z8/9…but who knows. It doesn’t have the better sensor either which is pretty integral to the AF as well.

If the low end were not cannibalized to differentiate from high end then why spend 5k when you can get the same capabilities for $600?
I don’t think the lower priced models are deliberately under spec’ed…rather they’re designed to a price point amd thus it’s got Expeed 6 instead of 7, probably the same sensor and EVF as the other crop Z models, etc. All that better tech costs more in parts, even with economies of scale in fabrication…and that makes it pretty unlikely that a body in the crop price range will come close to its higher priced brothers in performance.
The Zf looks like a really nice camera. Nikon gave it a deeper feature set then either the Z6 or Z7 (both versions of each) A Classy move I thought.
I would only add that "Features" are only a very small part of what makes flagship cameras expensive
Most features are software based, some like IBIS are software and Hardware reliant.
But mostly what adds cost to flagship cameras is ruggedness and build quality combined with smaller production runs. It costs a lot more to make them.
Flagship cameras will always get the newest /best features first, and have exclusivity for a while, but software features are relatively easy move downstream, Software/ hardware features will add costs which are justified by 'Prosumer' type cameras (and often provide the most bang for the buck) then finally to mass market cameras.
There is SOME holding back of features for 'Marketing reasons' but it is probably less than most people think.
Yes, but it then becomes what the firmware instructs the camera to do with that Expeed 7 processor. And there is no constraint that says that two cameras with the same processor must have the same operating software.

That's pretty obvious to most. There's also "no constraint" that two cameras with the same processor 'don't have' or have 'improved' operating software.
In spite of how pretty it looks for me , will stick to my D800E, after all had to wait and pay extra to avoid blurring filter.
