I have resolved to "grow up" and never participate in this NIKON/ canon silliness. Sony is great and I take more pictures with my Panasonic point and shoot than my $10,000+ full frame and expensive lens equipment.

Lately, I mostly ignore these ignorant comments, but I'm now just tired and out of patience. So it's "good bye UHH. I will miss my Montana guru but not much else. Best wishes to all and good night.

Kind of like the old days of Ford vs Chevy, a personal preference.

Or Nikon was always perceived as a top of the line camera and on my wish list when I was younger, along with a Rolex watch, and driving a Lincoln.

As I look back over the past 60 plus years I can say I owned a Lincoln, wear a Rolex, and shoot with a Nikon. :)

I do not know the answer, but Nikon is really advertising heavily if my recent Sunday NY Times papers are a good indicator.

For two consecutive weeks now, a ten page glossy colored insert by Adorama that is exclusively Nikon. Holiday oriented, as you would expect. Most Nikon digital models - not just DSLRs - from $99.95 - $5,999.95.

Maybe Adorama lurker has a reply?

Yes interesting isn't it?
Maybe it is because Nikons have better sensors and Canon dropped the ball with the 5D3.

Pop Photo just named the 5D3 camera of the year.

Canon "may" have a larger market share. Canon certainly is the most popular camera for-sale on Craigslist. Those Canon sellers are probably moving to Nikon.

I'm retired from Canon USA and my quality cameras are Nikons, and always will be.

While Canon makes some nice point-n-shoots, the Nikon DSLRs are far superior.

Perhaps Canon owners are more contented with their cameras?

And all other things being said, remember that when Paul Simon wrote the Kodachrome song, he didn't sing "I gotta a Canon camera".

Also, if you will notice many of the Nikon users are older people. Possibly because when we started out Nikon was the standard for quality and toughness. And believe me, tough they are. I worked for two newspapers in northeast Arkansas and used a Nikon FM and I cant count the times that camera was dropped, slammed into a wall in a crowd or otherwise abused. It still works fine today.

And the digitals are tough also. I know a man in Memphis, TN who dropped a D80 and it hit the pavement so hard that it broke the lens in half and pieces were hanging by the wiring harness in the lens. He put a new lens on and the camera works fine.

This discussion reminds me of what goes on between Auburn and Alabama fans. Most of the rednecks who have never gone to college are Bama fans and give us Auburn folks heck. I'm an Auburn alumni with a Microbiology degree, but get told I graduated from a cow college.

When I decided to go digital after using a couple of Pentax K1000 for 30 yrs I researched both and found the data equal. The only reason I bought a Canon was at the time, it had a self cleaning system and the Nikon needed to be sent in. I try to sit on the sidelines mostly reading and learning from the discussions on this forum and I have learned a lot.

I wish all a Merry Christmas. Santa's been good to me this year. He's bringing me a 7D.
