Two Topaz filters helped achieve the look in #1. Can you find the two animal faces that resulted? Or maybe there are more??

#2 has minimal (for me) processing of the raw file.

Thanks for your time and any feedback you're willing to share.

Lovely use of light and shadow Linda. I like the first one best but I did find something in the other one. Hope you don't mind

HA, so that's where Kitty Galore ended up! Thanks for the smile, Jack.

I like your image with the Topaz filters. It's not easy for me to get/keep a dark silhouette when it's in front of wonderful light coming from the background such as yours. Great job.

There was an interesting tutorial by SalvageDiver today in the "For Your Consideration" forum. Usually there isn't much discussion, but this week's image (My Image Your View) brought up the question of how to brighten up background light without also brightening up a silhouette which might be in the foreground. In this case, it was referring to silhouetted tips of trees.

Thanks so much, Bev. I read through the thread, including SalvageDiver's tut, then joined the challenge

Shooting in raw in dramatic light, and under-exposing initially usually works out for what I envisioned. I think most of my silhouette shots are less detailed than Yssirk's too, at least ones of the past couple of years. That probably makes it easier to control the contrasts.

Appreciate your time and comments!

Linda,
Finding objects and/or creatures in the shadows is a great way for me to challenge my imagination and this one was especially fun. I’m not certain, but to me it appears to be either a Coyote or Red Fox. Elongated nose and upright ears show up with the eye perfectly positioned.
Cool shot!
Pete

When I read the title "The Light Behind the Leaves" I thought you were about to show us some amazing bokeh! The best bokeh I ever produced was (accidental) from small glimmers of light showing through the leaves of a distant tree when photographing a branch of crab-apple blooms.

Very nice picture but I found no animals.

I like the brightness of the light in #1. Much more lively appearing than #2.
