I have found over the years it is easier to control The Thistle by harvesting all of the pods before they mature instead of chopping the whole plant out of the ground.
For all its beauty this thing is out to get you !!The only part that don't have spines is the top of the flower.
When I first move out here the thistle was all over the place, having fought it by chopping it in the 1970s I decided to just cut the pods off , now almost five years later I have only found two plants on the whole seven acres.
