Think about it Jerry. If a credit card won’t help you to start it and use it, what is the likelihood of it helping you later? How much will you charge for a Canon R3 or a Nikon Z9? Let’s face it dear friend, there are so many credit cards. If your not happy with one, another company will send you an invitation application.

Interesting thread Jerry. Here in New Zealand people are ditching their landlines and just using mobile phones. We finally got rid of ours about 6 months ago when we realised it hadn't rung for sometime as the only 2 people we talked to via landline had both died (both in their late 80's).
Even doctors, hospitals seem to ring the mobile number rather than landline for appointments etc.
It saves us about $40 a month in fees.
We both use the calendar for appointment reminders, I set mine for 2 reminders, one the day before and the other for 1 hour before the appointment. The calculator is handy too. I use notes a lot for shopping list etc and I can do them on the ipad or the phone and they sync together. The other day I bought a new (this time Lithium) house battery for the camper and it came with an app so I can monitor the battery charge on my phone.
The phones are switched on 24/7 so never miss a call and they are left on charge overnight.
Gotta love the technology but I'm surprised America isn't ahead of us in this.

Our landline provider in our area will be upgrading to fiber optic cable in the near future. This means installing an interface box (with battery backup) that will require 120v power to convert from fiber-optic to copper for the house phone wiring.....
So, where are they going to put the box? How large is the box? A wall in the heater/laundry room with no outlet? There is one location that I would find acceptable that has a duplex receptacle nearby. So, we'll have to see when they visit the house... We might even consider dropping the landline then.

I used to have fiber optics from Verizon. The box is about 12x12x4". They put it outside the house on the wall. They put a power supply that supply 12VDC to the unit and the power supply has a 4Ah 12V battery they said good for 8 hrs of power outage. The power supply is located inside the house in the garage and they run the power cable thru the wall.
When Verizon sold the business to Frontier they are so bad that I don't have them any more.

Yeah. We had fibre optic replace the old copper wiring in our area maybe 2 years ago. They did a pretty tidy job. Underground wiring to the back wall of the house and there's now a watertight box about 20" square and 4 inches thick at eye level. No sign of any AC wiring for power tho so don't think any power applied outside. Its then wired under the roof out to attached garages and there's a small (about 6" sq) box that's plugged in to 240v next to the modem which is on the other power plug. They also swapped our modem for one that is better compatible with fibre optic. One advantage is the new system has increased our modem coverage over the whole property even tho we are a brick built house. Upload and download speeds are fantastic and we run our phones thru the modem for phone calls which doesn't cost anything. We can pretty well make cell phone calls anywhere in the world (almost) for no charge other than the cost of our data plan. (About $NZ70/month). The SMART TV is also connected now as well.
Only forseeable problem is if we get a power cut we lose use of the computers. (Haven't had a power cut in the 11 years we've been here tho.) But there's still the phones as backup of course.

Thanks BebuLamar and TonyP, that's informative.
Going to be interesting to see what they suggest.
Verizon only does the landline, not internet (different provider).

When I had it the converter converts from fiber to coax and thus they did give me a modem. But I know now the new converter would convert from fiber to ethernet and thus you may only need a router.

We have a different provider for cable and internet. We would be just converting from fiber to copper for the house phones.

I had a major issue with my Facebook account. He got hacked and messed up to the point that I can’t use it at all. I went to reset the password, and I go through a bunch of rigmarole and then ultimately it wants to send me a code which I never received. Then I try to find them on the Internet to get their customer service phone number and that’s not possible. If anybody has an hour, please let me know. And then I makes me go to a think I’ll just ask her something like that. They ultimately want to refundable dollar I go to do that and then they changed it and they want 46 bucks so I’m not doing that. Ultimately I create a new account. I also made my password harder.

This also happens to me with regularity. They are so persistent sometimes that I am forced to stop dealing with them at some point. Very annoying.

I ditched my landline several years ago. Using just a cell phone for all my calls has worked out fine
