Waiting for a Security Code

This happened yesterday, and it's happening again today. I wanted to sign into a credit card I haven't used in a long time. "We see you haven't used your card in a while. For your security, click on 'Forgot Password' and enter the security code we will send you."

No security code. This happens more often than I like. I guess I'll just forget about it.

The security code is supposed to be sent via email or text message?

It's always via email.

After several attempts, I received several codes. After each one, I had to get another one. I was finally able to "change" my password to exactly what it was before and log in. All I wanted to do was make sure there was no activity on the account.

Yep. They eventually all turned up in regular email.

Annoying inconvenience, eh?

My CC sends text to phone, <10 seconds.

Usually, the code is waiting for me when I go to my email. Sometimes, it takes a while. If I don't keep checking back, the code will expire before I use it.

I don't know what causes the delay in email confirmations.
If given an option, I always select text to phone.
But I have to make sure they use the cell and not the land line.....

This happens A LOT, and it is a significant problem that I have yet to figure out. I had recently tried to post in a Canon Rumors forum, and went thru the same thing. I never did get that security code and I just gave up. It presumably has to to with computer security against malware, but I dunno.

IF I get the option to be texted a security code instead, then maybe I should take that option.

I'd have to turn the phone on, something I don't do unless I leave the house.

This problem seems to me to originate at the company who issues it. Some come immediately, others consistently take hours. While its irritating to wait anytime, its only a real problem when it takes hours and they have a short expiration time. I don't often sit at my computer for hours and thus for some, it expires before I ever see it.

Some people (younger people, I 'spect) do more surfing on the phone than I do. I rarely am on full web pages on my phone. The buttons are too small! But I wonder if one is doing that, then we could more likely get the option to be texted a security code, and getting the code that way is more likely to get through.
Food for thought.

Mine is always on from when I get up until I go to bed.
- messaging
- grocery list
- calendar
Probably another app or two during the day.
