The Butterfly conservatory located about 15 minutes from Niagara Falls Canada is a fabulous place to visit for photography. If you go, take your long lens. Has the oldest horticulture school in North America. Beautiful grounds with gardens. Also, Niagara-on-the-Lake Canada, just another 15 minutes from the Conservatory, is a beautiful historic small 18th - 19th century village at the mouth of the Niagara river and lake Ontario. You can see Toronto across the lake on a clear day. If you’re a history buff, Fort George is located at the edge of the village.

You seem to have all the right gear. Id go wide for the most part.

I dislike tripods and therefore use an IBIS system (Oly) which obviates that need. I also think the usual silky shots using ND filters are boring. Suggest you get those shots but look for other interesting shots as well. Wet conditions and nighttime shots can be interesting. The nite scenes are pretty cool. The falls have lights on them which can be interesting. The attached was from the US side as the lights changed colors on the falls. Also there was a walk to the bottom of the falls which was busted up a few years ago when we went. If it’s open I’d take that walk.

Take the go pro on the maid of the mist and keep the rest protected. (A thumbs up for Oly…I never even covered my gear!)

Great pic. But the horizon needs to be straightened.

Typical “UHH” comment - a photo is shown to demonstrate one thing, but just have to comment about some other {easily fixed} thing. In this case, people who came before have to guess which photo comment is about.

There are towers for sweeping vantage points, and the 'Maid of the Mist' boat ride that actually goes behind the falls for a great experience. But you and your gear will get wet, so rain covers and a clear filter will help.
Most Canon (and other) weather sealed lenses require a filter to be complete.
Last I saw Maid of the Mist had cruises on both falls

My spouse and I are going to Niagra Falls for 3 nights. Its my first time there and the second time for my spouse. I have read that to photograph the falls to use a wide angle lens but also a telephoto lens. I am planning on taking my Canon 6D2 with 24-105 lens and my Sigma 14-24 wide angle lens which is very bulky and heavy. Also I am planning on taking my panasonic lumix 24-400 FZ1000 camera and my hero 4 go pro camera for taking photos on the Hornblower Niagra Falls cruise, polarizer and some ND filters to get some night shots of the falls and the silky effect of the falls plus a tripod. I would like to know if the gear I am taking adequate or is there something that is not necessary to take like my 24-105 mm lens.? We are staying on the Canadian side and I would like to get some nice wide angle shots of Horseshoe falls and the American Falls. Would appreciate some suggestions on good locations to photograph the Falls. I read one good spot is Victoria Falls.

If you want to get the best vantage points, shoot from the Canadian side. Keep your camera dry as there will be sprays. The Maid of the Mist ride will bring you up close. Lived in Buffalo for 15 years (1968-1983) and visited the falls a number of times. Once when the falls were frozen over. Everything was coved with ice.

In 2008 we stayed on the Canadian side at the Oakes Hotel. It is the closest hotel to the falls.
This shot was taken early in the morning from our hotel room through the window.
Canon EOS 40D, ISO 100, with EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS.

Is the critique accurate? This is a photography site, if a photo has an obvious flaw, a flaw that distracts from the image theme or intent, are you suggesting that readers should not comment?

It’s irrelevant to the reason the photo was shown.

I appreciate all the great suggestions for things to see and photograph. My spouse and I are from Canada (BC actually) and so we are taking the Hornblower cruise on the advice of others who have done the Maid of the Mist and the Hornblower cruise.

That is a wonderful photo. You had a great view of the falls. Unfortunately we wont have such a great view. I am told it is a partial view of the American Falls. I could not afford to stay in the Hotel with the fantastic view of the falls.

The last time I was there I took only my Panasonic Lumix FZ-1000. I found it to be adequate for all of my needs.
