I have only seen one working photographer that wasn’t using one. Don’t hire the guy who wrote the article.

Anyone with an opinion can write an article.
One can agree with that opinion or not.
I'll bet the article received a lot of response (reaction), even if not noted in print.
Humans love controversy. Many feed on it.
As an alternative, one can do what one wants to do, without worrying about it.

I wonder if it is more about his clientele. Portraiture with warm lighting and flare is a modern style young people like. My daughter in law hired a pro to take family pics. They were outdoor environmental pics. The kids dressed up for them. All the pics had a lot of warm lighting and flare. I thought OMG what happened? But it was intentional and the kids loved the results.

Maybe that's old school now? Am I missing out on a modern trend? Professionals don't use lens hoods now? They are only for amateurs?

Almost never shoot without a hood. Reduces or eliminates solar flaring as well as provides great lens protection.

Maybe the boos told him that he had to write an article, and he didn't care what it was about. He just had to fill the space with something.

I imagine his next articles will be about how useless other items are: camera straps, filters, lens caps, lens wipes, extra lenses, tripods. The list is endless. He'll finish the series by writing about how taking is pictures is a waste of time and money. Human beings have memories - and they're free to use.
