I visited the museum in Stockholm in 2018. What I didn’t see in the article was how they raised it and preserved the wood.

At the museum they talked about how they raised it via balloon type floats, then literally sprayed it non stop for three months with water and then eventually a preservative to prevent it from rotting.

The ship’s architect was not found guilty in any way, but needless to say he never built another ship!

The reason it capsized is that the King ordered another, higher gun deck which the architect did not approve. Not wise to argue with the King. Hence, when it entered the channel, it promptly did a turtle. Nearly everyone was rescued due to its proximity to shore..

I visited the Vasa museum in the 1960s when they were restoring it. They sprayed it constantly with water containing some chemical that slowly replaced the water in the wood. I was there again in the 1970s when it was completed. It was beautiful and interesting. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Saddening to think of the tedious efforts by artisians of the day went onto it's creation all for naught.
