I have the book and he give very good explanation of different settings that would work for any type photography. With all the new controls on the Z8-9 it is worth the money

Imho, anything Steve Perry publishes is like having your own personal tutor. As others have stated, his books cover so much more than the specific topic (z9 or otherwise). With free book updates included, you can't get a better value than that! I have learned so much from him and credit him with making me a better photographer.

I am not a wildlife shooter and purchase his books.
His free custom controls for the Z8/Z9 is great..but he has expanded on this in his current and updated book. I find he goes into such clear detail about explaining all functions of the camera; you will benefit significantly whatever type of shooter you may be. It is one thing to program your camera based on what others suggest and offer for free--thank you to many. And another thing to understand your options based on a clear understanding of the camera.
This is a must for those who have a Z8/Z9 and have enjoyed his 'Secrets of mirrorless.....' And for those who have never read anything..why don't you go over to his website and watch a couple of his videos...such as BBF and others. If you like his presentation, then you will find his book even better.

Stever Perry has an eBook about using the Z8/Z9 for wildlife. Wildlife doesn't interest me, so I'm wondering if I should get his book. If he had left "Wildlife" out of the title, I would have jumped on it. I have several of his books, so I know he produces a good product.

Any opinions?

With due respect why are you asking US? Are you not able to imagine taking a landscape without a deer, elk, antelope, squirrel or Cape buffalo in the picture. What is the big deal about wildlife except getting yourself into the situation where you are able to take the photograph. Same as a landscape except you don't have to hide in a blind, sneak up on Niagara Falls or Old Faithful. Imagine yourself taking a photo of a waterfall but with no animal drinking by the side.

And, yet, Steve emphasizes wildlife in the title and the description. I don't want to buy 280 pages telling me how to deal with animals, and 280 explaining the camera.

If someone here has gone through the book, he could tell me how useful it is in terms of camera information.

Yes, Jerry, I see your point. My point is there is generally landscape around the wildlife he photographs.

Steve is certainly an expert on wildlife and birding/BIF photography. However, since you are not interested in that genre, you might want to consider the Busch book on the Z8/Z9 specifically. "David Busch's Nikon Z9/Z8 Guide to Digital Still Photography" - notice the book focuses on still photography rather than video. If it doesn't break the budget, maybe get Steve's book too as he does a great job of explaining the controls too, especially focus modes and techniques.

Yes, but then I would have to edit that animal out of the scene.

His book on Z8/Z9 setup is really valuable to non-wildlife shooting folks as well. Reason being he explains and illustrates virtually all menu options/functions, many of which you may never discover or understand if you just studied the Nikon manual and poked around in the menu system. The book truly provides well written, easy to understand why or why not you might want to set things up a certain way for whatever type of shooting you do.

I also own the book. Couldn't have said it better!

Right! And I hope I get to the point where I know everything very soon! I'll be turning 80 before I know it. So much information! So little time! 😲

There are so many things under $50 on my Wish List that they add up to a huge total. Decisions, decisions.

I have Steve's Z9/Z8 book, all three versions. IMO getting it is worth the money no matter what you shoot.

The updates (latest versions) have been free if you have already purchased it.
