I continue to grow my CFE collection, but I also have about 10 XQD cards which I use when card speed is less important. I can use either in all of my Nikon Z cameras (see list). Best of luck.

OK UHHoggers,

The Nikon D850 can use either XQD or CFexpress Type B in its primary slot according to the internet, which we know is always truthful. The CFexpress price has really come down. Example from B&H 128gb: XQD is $198 and CFexpress is $99.

Anyone now using CFexpress? Any issue swapping in and out CFexpress & XQD? I need additional chips but wish to keep using by XQD inventory as well.

Thank you in advance - Cliff

From what the experts say, you will not get any speed boost using CFexpress cards in a D850. (limitations of the camera) However, if you use a card reader to downlaod photos to a computer that will be faster than an XQD card transfer rate.

Would I need a different card reader for CFExpress than for CQD?

Yes you will need two card readers. I have two Sony card readers: MRW-E90 for XQD/SD; and MRW-G1 for CF Express Type B.

Please note...there are apparently a few card readers that can read both types of cards. I got flamed for giving this same answer a couple of months ago.

Atech, at B&H, is one of them. $100 and TAB for the 3 connectivity. I have owned one for several years. Best of luck.

First, thank you to everyone and their responses. I have ordered 3 128's and because of the excellent input, also ordered a new card reader. I only found one that could read XQD\CFexpress\SD from VELOGK. I have a VELOGK unit now and have had great success. This will help protect my XQD\SD investment.
